2015 SEASON OUTLOOK Under the direction of first year head coach Alex Kahoe, the Hawks will embark on a new era of Saint Joseph’s women’s lacrosse this season. SJU returns 18 letterwinners, including six starters, and welcomes nine newcomers for the 2015 season. “We are looking forward to getting on the field this season,” said Kahoe. “We are excited for the depth, athleticism, and versatility in every position. We have a wide range of balanced experience mixed with new faces, and we look forward to seeing it all come together and seeing the hard work in the offseason translate to our play on the field.” OFFENSE The Hawks return SJU’s top three goal scorers from last season in senior midfielder Julia Falcone, junior midfielder Kelly Phelan, and sophomore attack Nora McCallion, a trio that combined for 49 percent of SJU’s total goals (72-of-148) and 42 percent of SJU’s total points (91-of-217) in 2014. The veteran duo of Falcone and Phelan will lead SJU’s midfield unit this season. Falcone and Phelan have found success on the field and, with their speed, athleticism, and experience, will be expected to lead the younger group and to help the newcomers adjust to the new systems. Both exhibit a drive, passion, and heart that will lead the Hawks throughout the 2015 season. Entering her fourth year on Hawk Hill, Falcone owns a team-best 63 career goals in 43 appearances. She scored a team-best 28 goals on 48 shots and was SJU’s only offensive player to start all 16 games last year. Breaking into a starting role at the start of the 2014 season, Phelan registered a team-best 33 points on 25 goals and eight assists en route to ranking in SJU’s top three of every offensive category. Phelan was the Hawks’ top FPS performer, netting eight goals on 13 attempts. A 2014 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie selection, McCallion led all SJU freshmen in every offensive category last season and returns for her second season as an experienced leader on the attacking unit this year. McCallion broke into a starting role on the attack during the final nine games of the 2014 season en route to totaling 30 points on 19 goals and 11 assists. A trio of juniors will round out the returning attacking unit, led by tri-captain Bianca Angstadt. Angstadt has been consistent in her first two years on Hawk Hill, averaging 9.5 goals per season. Classmates Emily Bowers (11G, 20A) and Bonnie McShane (4G, 7A) can also be expected to contribute on the offensive end of the field.

The depth of SJU’s midfield unit is substantial as the Hawks bring back a core group of six sophomore midfielders who all earned minutes on the field last season. Sarah Smith and Taylor Dachowski comprise a pair of offensive performers that has the ability to impact SJU’s midfield unit this spring. Smith (3G, 3A) plays with an intensity and passion that will help drive and inspire the Crimson and Gray this season while Dachowski’s ability to provide bursts of quickness will be a welcomed spark to propel the offensive unit. Katelyn Ambrose and Becky Daub will be contributing factors from the defensive midfielder standpoint. Ambrose (5GB) will be involved in the draw while Daub’s physicality, toughness, and solid game sense will provide the sophomore the opportunity to be in the mix for ground balls. Megan Tracy and Maura Monti will round out SJU’s returning midfielders in 2015. Saint Joseph’s coaching staff sees extreme potential in its seven offensive additions in freshman attacks Rena Carabases (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape), Kristen Kelbon (Mount Laurel, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep), and Morgan Lamey (Hockessin, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) and midfielders Dana Garbinski (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy), Britt Hazard (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham), Taylor Jacobs (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), and Kate Payne (Hockessin, Del./Archmere Academy). Of the incoming attacks, Carabases can certainly be expected to make an impact in her first year. The 2014 South Jersey Coaches Association Attack of the Year, Carabases is quick

2015 SEASON OUTLOOK around the goal, has a solid shot, and can make plays happen. The rookie did a remarkable job of working on her role in the attack and fitting into the attacking system during the offseason and will certainly be called upon to contribute this season. Of the incoming midfielders, Garbinski could be an extreme factor on SJU’s scoring unit. The two-time Academic AllAmerican is a speedy player with a solid understanding of the game who, even as a freshman, understands defensive and offensive concepts fully. She has proven to be an all-around, solid player throughout the offseason and will be expected to utilize her versatility to be a strong playmaker for the Hawks this spring. Kelbon’s speed adds another dimension to SJU’s attack while Lamey could also make an impact for SJU. Payne has a strong sense of game awareness and has already proven herself to be a young leader among her teammates while Hazard and Jacobs will round out SJU's new midfielders. DEFENSE Although the graduation of 2014 Atlantic 10 All-Second Team selections Britt Hanrahan and Kaitlyn McSwiggan left holes in SJU’s defensive unit, Saint Joseph’s back line has worked its way to being a strength of the squad, led by a core trio of junior tri-captain Courtney Emanuele, junior Mallory Grey, and sophomore Maggie Egan. Emanuele (3G, 5A) saw minutes in every game last season to earn 10 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers in 16 appearances, and the tough, hard-working junior will lead the defensive unit this season.

As a rookie last year, Egan was SJU’s top defensive freshman off the bench and earned 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers in 15 appearances. Although limited in minutes last season, Grey can also be expected to make an impact with her speed, as the junior owns SJU’s fastest 40-yard sprint record (4.87) of all time. The returning defensive unit will be rounded out by junior Caroline Hagan, who is SJU’s only returning member of last season’s starting back line. Hagan was good for 26 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers in 16 starts last season. Freshmen Aly Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Catie Vivian (Slingerlands, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) will bring new talent and excitement to the defensive end of the field. GOALKEEPERS Senior tri-captain Nora McGeever and junior Genevieve Giblin will compete for the starting spot between the pipes come opening day. McGeever exhibits solid leadership and presence in net while Giblin owns two seasons and 29 starts worth of experience. In five career appearances, McGeever owns a 9.77 goalsagainst average and .263 save percentage in 86:24. Giblin started all 16 games in net last season to post a 10.39 goals-against average and .429 save percentage in 947:31 en route to a 5-11 overall record.

A five-time National Champion, three time All-American, and two-time NCAA Goalkeeper of the Year, Alex Kahoe was named the head coach of the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse program on August 11, 2014. Prior to her stint at SCH, Kahoe simultaneously served as the assistant women’s lacrosse coach for both the Canadian World Cup National Team and the University of Vermont squad from the fall of 2011 through the summer of 2013. Kahoe coached the Canadian National Team to the 2013 World Cup silver medal, which marked the first time in Canadian women’s lacrosse history that the program had defeated Australia and qualified for the championship game. At Vermont, Kahoe helped guide the Catamounts to the 2013 America East Tournament and a triple-overtime win over then#15 Dartmouth for the program’s first win over the Big Green since 1993 and first win over a nationally-ranked team since 2008. Kahoe spent five seasons with Duke University between 2006-11 during which time the Blue Devils reached the NCAA 2015 SAINT JOSEPH’S WOMEN’S LACROSSE MEDIA GUIDE 4

HEAD COACH Tournament all five seasons with three Final Four appearances. Duke took home three Tewaaraton Awards and landed 14 Blue Devils on the IWLCA All-America Team in those five seasons, while reaching the ACC Finals in 2009. Kahoe also has a proven track record of success in the classroom. During her five seasons with the Blue Devils, Duke had 27 ACC All-Academic Team selections, three IWLCA Academic Team honors and 2008 IWLCA Merit Squad honors for boasting the third-highest team GPA in Division I women’s lacrosse. Serving as the associate head coach from 2005-06 and the assistant coach from 2003-05, Kahoe coached the University of Delaware to its first-ever CAA Tournament with an appearance in the 2005 semifinals. From 2002-03, Kahoe coached two IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-America selections at the University of Pennsylvania. Kahoe started her coaching career as an assistant at her alma mater, the University of Maryland, and in two seasons, she helped guide the Terrapins to the 2001 NCAA title. She has been the co-owner and director of Fuel Lacrosse and Sports, LLC for eight years, where she directs plans and oversees lacrosse camps and clinics throughout the year. A 2000 graduate of Maryland, Kahoe was a part of the teams that won five national championships and three ACC championships. A three-time All-American and ACC Goalie of the Year, and two-time NCAA Goalie of the Year, she also earned ACC Rookie of the Year honors in 1997. Kahoe will be inducted into the University of Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame on October 3, 2014. Kahoe was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Team in 2002 and was selected to the NCAA 25th Anniversary All-Time Women's Lacrosse Team in 2005.. Ireland World Cup Team that finished fifth in 2009. “I would like to thank Don DiJulia, Renie Shields, Jim Brown and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to be the head women’s lacrosse coach at St Joe's,” said Kahoe. “I am extremely excited to be apart of the Saint Joseph’s University family.” Kahoe received a bachelor’s of science double degree in criminal justice and sociology from Maryland in 2000 and a master’s of business administration in sports management and marketing from Delaware in 2006.

ASSISTANT COACH Colleen Dawson Assistant Coach - 1st Maryland ‘11

A 2010 National Champion and three-time ACC Champion at the University of Maryland, Colleen Dawson has joined the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse coaching staff for the 2015 season. Dawson joins the Hawks after spending two years as the director of lacrosse operations at Loyola University of Maryland in Baltimore, where she was primarily responsible for running day-to-day operations of the program, including but not limited to film breakdown, travel, and meals. Additionally, Dawson organized the inaugural “Houndraiser,” a silent auction fundraiser that raised over $11,000 for the women’s lacrosse program. "I am extremely excited to welcome Colleen to our coaching staff at Saint Joseph's University," said head coach Alex Kahoe. "The championship experience that Colleen brings as a National Champion player at Maryland and the past two years with a Patriot League Championship at Loyola will help us as we prepare and develop our team. Colleen brings a passion and dedication that will immediately impact our student-athletes." Dawson has coached at both the youth and high-school level with the Richmond Rapids and D1 Finish Line, respectively, and has years of experience with instructional camps and clinics; at both Maryland and Loyola, Dawson worked alongside coaching staffs to run maximum exposure camps and clinics and spent time as a clinic instructor at Drawthority. Dawson was a member of the Maryland women’s lacrosse program from 2008-11, helping the Terrapins to three consecutive ACC Championships and the 2010 NCAA Championship. The scholar-athlete also excelled in the classroom, where she earned ACC Student-Athlete Honor Roll recognition and was a member of the Leadership Group. Following her collegiate career, Dawson spent a year abroad working with and coaching youth lacrosse programs in Australia. She coached the Footscray U-17 Team to the 2012 Premiership title and led all scorers on the 2012 Footscray State League Team. Dawson is a product of West Chester East High School, where she was a 2007 All-American, the All-Chester County Female Athlete of the Year, and an All-Conference and All-Area First Team selection. Dawson earned a bachelor’s of science degree in kinesiology from the University of Maryland in May 2011.

ASSISTANT COACH Becky Lynch Assistant Coach - 1st Year North Carolina ‘12

A 2012 All-American and Tewaaraton Award Finalist at the University of North Carolina, Becky Lynch has joined the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse coaching staff for the 2015 season. Lynch enjoyed a decorated four-year career at the University of North Carolina, where she was a Tewaaraton Award Finalist, First-Team-All American, and All-ACC selection in 2012. She is UNC’s single-season and all-time career assist record holder and the Tar Heel in program history to be named to the All-ACC Tournament Team for four consecutive years. She was recognized as a “Leader of Distinction” in 2012 by the Carolina Leadership Academy. "As an All-American from UNC and a current U.S. National Team player, we are thrilled to have Becky as a part of our coaching staff," said head coach Alex Kahoe. "She had an incredible playing career, and her coaching experience will undoubtedly have an immediate impact on our program. I am very impressed with her ability to connect with, motivate, and inspire our student-athletes." Lynch spent the past year as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of North Carolina, where she trained two All-ACC goalkeepers and worked with the scout team while assisting the offensive and defensive game strategies and execution. She has also been involved in local lacrosse development, where she directed the “Young Guns” local youth lacrosse program and led numerous clinics at the high school level. As a camp instructor at both Carolina Lacrosse and Amonte Lacrosse since 2008, Lynch has worked camps and clinics for lacrosse players looking to improve their fundamental skills. Lynch gained valuable experience working as a Lacrosse Ambassador for the English Lacrosse Association, out of Bedfordshire, England. She worked as a full-time physical education teacher at Bedford Girls School and as a lacrosse specialist. She was inducted into the Garden City High School Sports Hall of Fame in June 2013 and is a current member of the United States National Women’s Lacrosse Team. Lynch earned a bachelor’s of arts degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina in May 2012.

ASSISTANT COACH THE HAWK Katie Gallagher Volunteer Assistant Coach - 1st Year Maryland ‘10

A 2010 National Champion and three-time ACC Champion at the University of Maryland, Katie Gallagher has joined the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse coaching staff for the 2015 season. Gallagher returns to Hawk Hill after spending the 2014 lacrosse season as the coach at Eastern High School in Voorhees, N.J. She coached for SJU during the 2011-12 campaign under former head coach Denise Roessler. A 2010 graduate of the University of Maryland, Gallagher was a three-year starting defender for a Maryland program that won three consecutive ACC Championships and the 2010 NCAA Championship. She earned ACC All-Tournament Team and All-ACC honors en route to 2011 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coach’s Association All-American recognition. Gallagher was a four-year scholar-athlete at Maryland and earned an ACC Post-Graduate Scholarship. "Our staff is fortunate to have Katie step in as our volunteer assistant," said head coach Alex Kahoe. "Katie's love for the game and commitment to excellence will benefit the program emensly as we take steps toward the future of the women's lacrosse program." Gallagher currently coaches for Step Up Lacrosse, where she develops and presents material on collegiate athletes and recruitment and delivers lacrosse training and education to athletes in areas within Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Georgia, Washington D.C., Oregon, California and New Jersey. She spent six years with Elevate Lacrosse Camps in Baltimore, working with top head coaches to develop summer league camps and seminars regarding the recruitment process in Division I lacrosse. Gallagher earned a bachelor’s of science degree in behavioral and community health in December 2010 and went on to earn a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing through an ACE program from Drexel University in May 2013.

THE HAWK

One of the most famous mascots in college sports, the Saint Joseph's Hawk has been flapping its wings for 58 years. The Hawk, which celebrated its golden anniversary in 2005-06, is best known for staying in constant motion by flapping its wings throughout every basketball game and representing the Saint Joseph's motto, "The Hawk Will Never Die." Saint Joseph’s athletic teams have been recognized with the nickname “Hawks” since 1929. At that time, the school’s yearbook editor initiated a contest among the student body for a symbol. More than 100 submissions were narrowed, with “Hawks” winning out over “Grenadiers” by a slim margin. The name was appropriate because it typified “the fighting spirit of our crimson and gray athletes and it is suggestive of the aerial attack which has made our football team famous.” Football, ironically, was discontinued at SJU following the 1939 season. The Hawk mascot has garnered numerous accolades in its over 50-year history. It has been selected as the nation’s top mascot by The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Street & Smith’s Basketball Yearbook, ESPN College Basketball magazine and was nominated for the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2008. 2015 SAINT JOSEPH’S WOMEN’S LACROSSE MEDIA GUIDE 8

SWEENEY FIELD Sweeney Field, formerly known as Finnesey Field, has been home to 10 different varsity squads at Saint Joseph’s University in over 80 years of use. Opened in 1929 as home to the SJU football squad, the field has undergone numerous changes over the years and is the current home of the men’s and women’s soccer teams and the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. The field was renamed Sweeney Field in Fall 2013 upon completion of an extensive expansion project. The venue has significantly increased the seating capacity for SJU’s varsity lacrosse and soccer programs. The new name recognizes the contributions of Sean S. Sweeney ’94 (MBA), a member of the University’s Board of Trustees and the lead benefactor to the renovation project. Sweeney Field was blessed in conjunction with Hawktoberfest on October 12, 2013 while a formal dedication will be held this spring The current expansion includes the addition of 1,200 permanent seats to the hillside nearest to the University’s iconic Barbelin Hall as well as the addition of 1,100 portable seats on the opposite side of the field, increasing total seating capacity to 3,000. In addition, the facility will includes a new state of the art press box and enhanced sound system. Opened in 1929 and planned as the centerpiece to a 70,000-seat football stadium, SJU was forced to eliminate the field’s original grandstand and hillside seating in 1960 due to the construction of Villiger (now Post) Hall/Bluett Theater. Since 1990, the field has undergone a number of upgrades and enhancements designed to expand usage and functionality, including installation of AstroTurf artificial surface prior to the currently TigerTurf surface, lights, and bleachers. Additionally, the track received a new coat of rubber material in 2009 to better suit the athletes who use it for all seasons. Currently the home of SJU men’s and women’s varsity soccer and lacrosse teams, Sweeney Field has also served as the home venue for Hawk baseball, field hockey, football and softball, in addition to peripheral usage by the men’s and women’s track teams, along with countless club, intramural and recreational activities. Legend has it that a 1777 Revolutionary War skirmish took place on the site. Finnesey Field had been named after the late James T. Finnesey. A native of Wyncote, Pa., parishioner at the Gesu and president of a local auto manufacturer, he was a member of the Saint Joseph’s Foundation Committee which was established in 1922 to raise support for the College’s relocation to Philadelphia’s Wynnefield neighborhood. Finnesey was a lead donor to the stadium project in 1927. Baseball re-occupied the space in 1947, calling Sweeney home until 1959, and the Saint Joseph’s men’s soccer program was started in 1958 and played every season but except 1960 at Sweeney. The squad has compiled an overall mark of 165-192-31 in 53 seasons at Hawk Hill, the most victories of any program on Sweeney Field. SJU opened its playing grounds with a 6-0 victory over Rutgers-South Jersey in October 24, 1958. In 1990, artificial turf replaced the grass, making Sweeney a truly multi-purpose facility. use of the grounds, while new bleachers in 2003 on the hill next to Mandeville Hall were another touch of renovation to a historic stadium. The field hockey team played on Sweeney Field until 2007 and now practices and hosts games on the new Ellen Ryan Field on the Maguire Campus. The location has also been home to women’s soccer since 1996 and the field hockey team wrapped up its last season on Sweeney Field in 2007. The women’s lacrosse squad is 74-104 in 21 seasons on Hawk Hill. The best season came in 2009 when the Hawks went 10-8 and played their way to the Atlantic 10 championship game. The first game was played on March 23, 1993 when SJU defeated Gwynedd Mercy, 18-4. The men’s lacrosse team has compiled an overall 66-88 mark in 21 seasons on Hawk Hill. SJU’s 5-1 regular-season home record in 2014 marked the best winning percentages in program history. Also in 2014, the Hawks earned their first win over a nationally-ranked opponent in program history with a 9-7 victory over #12 Bryant on April 5, the day that Sweeney Field was officially dedicated. Overall, the site has seen 1,259 games entering the 2014-15 academic year, and SJU teams put together a total record of 570-633-56.

2014 YEAR IN REVIEW • For the fifth consecutive year, the women’s lacrosse team earned Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA for its latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.

• Senior co-captains and defensive leaders Brittany Hanrahan and Kaitlyn McSwiggan were voted to the Atlantic 10 AllConference Second Team. The duo combined for 64 ground balls and 49 caused turnovers. Hanrahan and McSwiggan started all 16 games on the back line and, under their leadership, Saint Joseph’s concluded its season ranked second nationally in caused turnovers per game and fifth nationally in ground balls per game. • Junior midfielder Julia Falcone earned her third consecutive postseason conference honor with a spot on the A-10 Academic All-Conference Team. Falcone led the Hawks in scoring with 28 goals. • Freshman attack Nora McCallion made her mark in her first collegiate season as SJU’s leader in draw controls and top freshman in points, goals, assists, shots, shot percentage, shots on goal, and free-position goals en route to being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.

• Hanrahan was chosen to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association D-I Senior Game South Team roster. • Sophomore attack Emily Bowers dished out seven assists against Delaware State on February 27 to break Saint Joseph’s single-game record. • Senior attack Val Paolucci reached 100 career points in her final collegiate game at George Washington on April 27. • The Hawks won Atlantic 10 games against St. Bonaventure and George Mason. • Saint Joseph’s 2014 leaders in assists, caused turnovers, and ground balls broke into SJU’s single-season records list. Bowers tied for sixth in single-season assists (20), senior defender Allison Heath concludes her career tied for fifth in single-season caused turnovers (27), and sophomore goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin tied for 10th in ground balls (42). • Nationally, Giblin ranked 24th in ground balls per game, 28th in saves per game, 34th in total saves, 47th in save percentage, and 57th in goals-against average. McSwiggan ranked 19th in caused turnovers per game while Hanrahan ranked 33rd in ground balls per game. Bowers ranked 25th in assists per game.

• In the A-10, six Hawks ranked in the top 10 of nine categories. In the category of caused turnovers per game, McSwiggan, Heath, Hanrahan, sophomore defender Caroline Hagan, and Giblin ranked second, fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively. Giblin also ranked second in saves per game, third in ground balls and saves, fourth in save percentage, and fifth in goals-against average. ATLANTIC 10 CONFERENCE On March 2, 1975, the idea of what is now the Atlantic 10 Conference was conceived. What started as an eight-school, men’s basketball-only affiliation has grown into a 14-university, 21-sport league that is universally hailed as one of the best conferences in the country. That growth and prominence is a direct result of the ideals and commitments of the member institutions of the Atlantic 10 – Davidson College, The University of Dayton, Duquesne University, Fordham University, George Mason University, The George Washington University, La Salle University, University of Massachusetts, University of Rhode Island, University of Richmond, St. Bonaventure University, Saint Joseph's University, Saint Louis University and Virginia Commonwealth University. The Atlantic 10 was proactive in navigating sweeping conference realignment, adding George Mason University for 2013 and Davidson College in 2014. The additions follow a very successful first year by Virginia Commonwealth University, which began full membership on July 1, 2012. The league continues to draw national praise for its decisions during conference realignment in selecting institutions driven by academics and basketball. The league was deemed the “winner” of conference realignment in 201112. The three additions were guided by the five-year Strategic Initiative Plan that was adopted during the 2010-11 academic year. The 14 member institutions of the A-10 are united and strengthened by their diversity. Each is extraordinary in its educational mission, whether of a Catholic faith, a private university or a land grant institution. The varied pursuits of each member prove that there are many threads that weave the fabric for a great conference. The Atlantic 10 Conference, with a total population of over 76.5 million people within its geographic footprint of eight states and the District of Columbia, will crown champions in 21 sports this year: baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's golf, women’s lacrosse, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field, women's

rowing, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, and women's volleyball. The presidents and chancellors of Atlantic 10 institutions, in conjunction with Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade, have made a strong commitment to making the academic and athletics equation a successful one. Over the years, the league membership has strived to better recognize the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes. The Commissioner's Honor Roll, which cites every Atlantic 10 studentathlete with a 3.5 grade point average or better, recognized 2,653 student-athletes in 2013-14. The league sponsors Academic AllConference teams in each of its sports and honors two student-athletes as the A-10 Student-Athletes of the Year. Moreover, the Atlantic 10 provides 10 postgraduate scholarships with $7,000 grants to selected student-athletes. In 2013-14, nearly 200 student-athletes earned Academic AllConference recognition. The Atlantic 10 Conference annually earns high marks in the NCAA Academic metrics. This includes ranking fifth among all 32 Division I Conferences in the Academic Progress Rate (APR) and in the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the past year’s announcements. Success on the playing field has mirrored the A-10’s classroom prowess, with the league earning NCAA postseason bids in each of its 21 sports, including two men’s soccer bids and a record 13 men’s and women’s basketball bids. Men’s basketball in the Atlantic 10 saw a record six teams earn NCAA Tournament berths and for the seventh straight year an A-10 team advanced to the second weekend of play when Dayton made a run to the Elite Eight.

The Mission of the Athletics Department at Saint Joseph’s University reflects the Mission of the University by using the programs within Athletics as a way to develop the whole person and preparing men and women for others.

THE UNIVERSITY Founded in 1851, Saint Joseph’s is an independent, Catholic, Jesuit university teaching disciplined reasoning, effective communication and a love of learning. From Willings Alley in Old City Philadelphia to Stiles Street in North Philadelphia to its current location on City Avenue, Saint Joseph’s has continued to grow and change with the times. The University combines the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence, a history of service and an ideal campus location to produce successful students who strive to make a good world even better. Full-time, undergraduate day enrollment comprises approximately 4,670 students. Graduate, evening and executive programs push total enrollment to more than 8,000 students. THE JESUIT TRADITION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Saint Joseph’s nationally-recognized academic reputation is confirmed by ongoing acknowledgment in Barron’s, U.S. News & World Report and Peterson’s. The Jesuit tradition of intellectual inquiry and personal concern manifests itself in small, challenging classes taught by a caring faculty. Graduate assistants do not teach, so undergraduates can be sure they are receiving the very best educational experience from trained experts. One-on-one interaction between students and faculty is a reality at Saint Joseph’s. A solid liberal arts curriculum provides across-the-board learning for every student. Supporting that curriculum are comprehensive academic majors and learning facilities. The result is a broad education that prepares students not only for employment and graduate school, but for life itself. In the fall of 1998, SJU opened the $25 million Owen A. Mandeville Hall, which houses the Erivan K. Haub School of Business, the Center for Food Marketing and the region's first "Teletorium" and "Moot Boardrooms." An 87,000-square-foot international academic center featuring state-of-the-art distance learning technology, it is located near the corner of 54th Street and City Avenue.

A HISTORY OF SERVICE The students of Saint Joseph’s University are dedicated to making today’s world even better. A natural spirit of volunteerism has enabled the University’s community service programs to become the most popular extracurricular activities on campus. In addition, a Service Learning program allows students to receive academic credit for their work outside the classroom. SJU offers local, national and international opportunities for student service. From

North Philadelphia to Camden, N.J.; from New Orleans to the Appalachian Mountains, Saint Joseph’s students embrace the Jesuit mission of serving those in need. The Thanksgiving Dinner Dance for area senior citizens and the Hand-in-Hand Festival for the handicapped are two annual student-run events that draw thousands of special visitors to campus for fun and friendship.

IDEAL CAMPUS LOCATION SJU’s City Avenue location combines the best of dynamic Philadelphia with the suburban, residential setting of the elegant Main Line. Saint Joseph’s 65 acres span two counties, allowing students to literally enjoy the best of both worlds. The city of Philadelphia, with its tremendous wealth of historical, cultural, social and athletic attractions, is easily accessible, while the safety, serenity and greenery of a suburban campus are right at hand. The friendly atmosphere and close-knit campus ensure that students don’t get lost in either the literal or the figurative sense at Saint Joseph’s. Expanded library, computer and athletic facilities add a big-time “feel” to this growing university.

SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS Men and women leave Saint Joseph’s prepared. The University boasts an excellent record of placing its graduates in first-time jobs, professional schools and other

advanced degree programs. Part-time work and internships provide real-world experiences, the kind which delight future employers. And with its many diverse student organizations, SJU offers ample opportunities to assume leadership positions. An extensive on-campus recruitment program provides graduates with a head start in their employment search. Regular meetings with faculty advisors, along with advisory programs in the health professions and in pre-law, assist students who wish to further their schooling.

PHILADELPHIA SJU’s Philadelphia location gives students access to two worlds. The campus resembles a park, surrounded by the stately homes of Philadelphia’s historic Main Line suburbs. Yet students have access to the cultural, commercial and recreational activities of downtown Philadelphia -– only a short ride away. SJU students take frequent advantage of the artistic and cultural resources Philadelphia offers, as well. They visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Franklin Institute Science Museum; the Academy of Music, which houses ballet and opera; and the new Kimmel Center, home to the Philadelphia Orchestra. In addition, SJU students enjoy rooting for Philadelphia’s teams in the four major professional sports leagues.
