As a former grade school teacher, I would usually ask my students this before going on a field trip. We discussed how they were representing their school, and ultimately representing Christ...and their behavior in public should reflect that!

It’s similar with you. Although not as immediate as when you attended, you still represent Shoreland Lutheran High School. But more importantly, as a person who understands the love of their Savior, you represent Christ. What an unbelievable privilege for us, as undeserving as we are!

So reflect your representation of Christ… By worshiping on a regular basis. By letting your light shine in your workplace. By raising your children in God’s Word. With a desire to support ministries like your alma mater with your prayers and finances. With a desire to share Jesus with those you meet.

INSIGHT is published three times annually. Our goal is to inform and inspire SLHS graduates and supporters with news about our teen ministry and the SLHS family at large.

So are all our Shoreland students - past, present, and future - who have graciously been filled with faith.

NIGHT TO SHINE PARTICIPANT

SLHS TODAY FEBRUARY / MARCH NEWS  Night to Shine (pictured above) was an incredible prom experience for people with special needs. Over 50% of our students helped make this a huge success!  Pacer wrestlers (pictured right) became the Metro Classic Conference Champions for the first time in school history!  Sophomore Lucas Schevikhoven made Shoreland history as the first Pacer wrestler to place in state with a 3rd place win.  Girls Basketball (cover picture) became regional champs in the state tournament.  SLHS Music Festival & WELS Band Fest were held.  ACT testing has been in full swing.  Over 100 grade school students joined us for Kinderfest.  Another international student, Bill Wang, was baptized!

LEADING LIVES OF SLHS Alumni Serving the Physical Needs of Others Shawn Seipler, SLHS (‘94), recognized the global health issue of disease due to inadequate hygiene. He became part of the solution by founding a non-profit organization called Clean the World.

Clean the World recycles soap and other discarded hygiene products, and then repackages them as hygiene kits - with the help of others – to be given to relief organizations across the globe. Many times, the kits come with a biblical message, providing both spiritual and physical care to those in need. They have distributed over 30 million bars of soap to 100 countries! Shawn has been a huge blessing to many people across the globe. Thanks for being an example of living a life of Christian service!

“I enjoyed my time as a student of SLHS. Even at a small new school, I had opportunities to be involved in many activities, and received great instruction from very dedicated Christian teachers. My first 3 years at Shoreland were spent in the old school building at Friedens. Space was at a premium then. Thankfully, God moved many faithful people to support the vision of an Area Lutheran High School, and the current location in Somers was ready to use my senior year! I'm so thankful for having a great Christian education for myself and my children (both of my children are also now SLHS Alumni!). To God be all glory and praise for His great work through Shoreland!”

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

In the coming months, an attempt will be made to establish an Alumni Association of Shoreland Lutheran High School which will assist in the school's ministry by identifying, attracting, and retaining friends of the school.

In a survey taken last year, many of our awesome alumni indicated a willingness to be part of this association. It’s time to actively make that happen.

First, we will be organizing a small group of alumni to PLAN the general and yearly goals of this association. From there we will GATHER more alumni to be engaged, and hopefully CREATE a culture among our Alumni that fosters a spirit of loyalty and promotes the general welfare of Shoreland Lutheran High School.

GIVING Shoreland has been a part of a matching grant that is directly tied to our SLHS alumni. This grant states that Thrivent Financial will match 50₵ for every $1.00 (up to $25,000) given from a SLHS alumni. So if we receive $50,000 through alumni gifts, we will be awarded the full amount of the grant. This is a great way thank God for the blessings that come through Shoreland, and to enhance your gift to your alma mater.

We are nearing the end of the time period of this grant, which went from April 2014 to April 2016. We’re excited to report that with less than a month left, we have almost met our goal. Whether your gift is $50 or $5000, it makes an impact. There is strength in numbers when alumni and friends give on an annual basis!

Alumni, thank you so much for your continued support of this awesome ministry!
