Assalamualaikum wbt

First of all, I would like to warmly welcome all of you to the land Down Under. Congratulations! Alhamdulillah, you have chosen Australia or New Zealand as your next destination in your academic endeavour. There must be good reasons behind your choice. In life we all have to make many choices and decisions. Once a choice or decision has been made, the next step is to face it and treat it as a task that must be accomplished. To do this requires a wide range of qualities, some you already have, and others you will soon develop. The next chapter in your life is the most significant episode that will determine your future footsteps. Living abroad, we will become more independent, more proactive, more tolerant, more open minded and more mindful of things going on around us. Indirectly, we are trained to become a significant member of a society that contributes for a better and brighter future. Alhamdulillah, you have already overcome the first hurdle – you have been accepted to further your study abroad. The next hurdle is to believe in yourself to pursue your ultimate dream. In regards to this, I would like to share my experience in academic life. Typical students who enrol to university think that the main purpose is to score in their exams and to paint colourful marks on their academic transcripts. Success at university does not only depend on gaining marks and memorizing facts. More importantly it depends on how well we can use the knowledge that we learn and transform ourselves to become the agent of change to improve our family, community and ummah as a whole. On a personal note, at University level, I came to realize how to develop good judgment; hard work; motivation; optimism; resilience; responsibility; self-confidence and a sense of purpose.

2 Foreword by the President of ISMA-Australia

As a Muslim, we are prescribed to be the best servant of Allah as stated in the Quran: “I have not created the jin nor mankind exc to worship Me (i.e. Allah s.w.t)” (Adz- Dzariyat: 56) ISMA Australia and ISMA New Zealand are committed in providing a platform to facilitate a “whole person education approach” in order to achieve this common mission. We hope that the next 4 years of your life in Australia or New Zealand will be the most memorable one. We certainly think that AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND are the best places to be! G’Day, Mate & Kia Ora!

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah. Warm greetings and Kia Ora to all. On behalf of Malaysian Muslim Solidarity of New Zealand, or formally known as ISMA New Zealand, I would like to welcome you to New Zealand! First of all, congratulations for the great result in your pre-university program. I believe you had worked hard and sacrificed a lot of things for the success to come to your hand. Now it is the time to make another huge step forward, by preparing yourself to “fly” to Aotearoa (The Land of The Long White Cloud). Make full use of your time later at overseas. Use the opportunity to learn more about yourself, understand the purpose of life, train yourself to be a better person everyday, and remember to participate and contribute in good causes. Always work for the betterment of the society, starting from yourself and your circle of influences. Last but not least, I wish you all the best for this wonderful chapter of your life. Always keep in touch with us. Our representatives all around New Zealand are always ready to help you anytime from now on till you arrive and join us in The Land of The Long White Cloud. Thank you, and see you again in the near future.

About ISMA

ISMA, as the acronym implied stands for Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia or Malaysian Muslim Solidarity. It is a non-profit and registered NGO body that is highly active in serving the community to provide benefits in terms of social welfare, and personal development for individuals, families, women and youths. ISMA is also sensitive to current issues and is always concerned with the current affairs, especially regarding the Muslim community. Therefore, today's generation of Muslims should have superior characteristics in terms of personality, skills, and the mastery of science and technology. In order to achieve this, ISMA conducts various programs and activities all over Malaysia to build a community that is centred on Islamic principles with a slogan of “Membina Generasi Harapan, which stands for to build a generation of hope. With the same vision and mission to fulfil, ISMA Australia and New Zealand were established on July 16th 2009 and Nov 10th 2009 respectively, responding to students and community needs and expectations in both countries.
