Desiderio Construction IRST AND FOREMOST I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT

I am very excited to join the group of dedicated and hardworking folks at San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity! It is an honor to be part of this organization! I am also very grateful to all of our VOLUNTEERS, and I am especially proud of the Construction Team! We are making steady progress and are forecasting three to four weeks ahead in our work schedule. Trusses are going up on the first four garages; perimeter and interior walls are complete for the first two single-story homes (Lots 1 and 4), and the current focus is on the first two-story homes (Lots 2 and 3). The excitement of our Desiderio families builds as they

Meet Shervin Dana, new Director of Construction

hervin Dana has over 15 years of experience working for the private and public sectors in the fields of civil engineering, land development and building construction including residential, commercial, public facilities and infrastructure. Shervin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, specializing in Network and Software Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. As part of his Masters program, Shervin studied Civil Engineering and Construction Management coursework at Cal State L.A.

Shervin holds a General Engineering and Building Contracting License from the State of California. He is OSHA certified and trained in the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan with the State of California Water Quality Control Board. He is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Shervin remarked, “It is a great feeling being part of an organization that makes a difference in people’s lives, bringing smiles to their faces and making their wishes come true!”

Lusine and Artak have a son, Gagik (5) and a daughter, Anna (3). They moved here from Armenia two years ago after being selected in the immigration lottery. Lusine works as a benefits planner for the State Rehabilitation Department. Artak cares for the children and

works weekends at a restaurant in Glendale. He has construction experience in Armenia and looks forward to working on the Lomita homes. Lusine is a hospitality volunteer at the Desiderio Homes construction site. Kevin and Magaly have a multi-generational family of seven, including their three sons— Ethan (6), Eli (2), and Ezra (8 months). Magaly’s mother Esperanza, and her sister Karen (17). Kevin works two jobs to maintain a financial safety net for his family.

Rocio and Ivan have three children—Jorge (20), Alejandro (14) and Brissa (4). Jorge is disabled and attends day school. The family is very supportive. Rocio works as a payroll

clerk while Ivan cares for the children and works part time detailing automobiles. They are happy to have qualified for Habitat home-ownership and look forward to a home with more space. Monzur and Hasina have three sons— Raihan (10), Rakib (8) and Rahil (1). The boys do not have enough room to study in their current home. Monzur works for an extermination company and is a part-time independent driver.

He works in housekeeping at a medical facility and security at a hospital. He hopes to train as an X-ray technician. Magaly is a part-time lab assistant at a medical center. Esperanza cares for the children when both parents are working. They are very excited at the prospect of having a home large enough for their family.

When he first moved to the United States from Bangladesh, he drove a cab in New York City until he could afford to bring his family to join him. Hasina has experience in human resources administration. Having a home means security and hope for their future. Christopher is the head of a family of five including his two daughters, Brianna (7) and Aaliyah (5) and his parents,

Carlos and Miriam. Christopher is a bus driver and works long hours to support his family. Carlos and Miriam care for their granddaughters while Christopher works. Carlos does computer graphics work at home. This is a family

filled with humor and enthusiasm, and they are very excited about working toward homeownership.

Carlos and Diana have two children— Isabella (12) and Nicholas (9). Carlos works

in a hotel laundry, and Diana works as a clerk in an upholstery firm. Their single-bedroom home is too small for their family. They are very enthusiastic about partnering with San Gabriel Valley Habitat, not only to build a new home with room for everyone, but also to learn sound financial management and create a better life for themselves and their children.
