ow has come the glory season. Glory in the bountiful fruits of God's earth. Glory in the breathtaking multi-colored leaves of the trees. Glory in the invigorating smells of Fall. Even glory in the sparkling frost-blanket covering the grass and putting it to sleep for the winter. Glory, glory everywhere we look.

The Bishop’s Epistle of Love “Realistic Reason for Hope in Your Situation” (Lamentations 3:1-66)

“This I recall to mind; therefore I have hope: The Lord’s loving kindness indeed never cease” (Lamentations 3:21-22)

People of Faith,

I

wish to write about “Realism and Hope.” In the lives of saints, I have notice that they are difficult to keep together at times. For some saints, realism about life and the people around us leads to helplessness. For others, hopefulness is almost totally unrealistic.

God led me to request of you to do an appraisal of your personal conditions of sickness, affliction, mistreatment by friends and others, lost or lapsed possessions, loneliness, not enough resources to make it, disappointments, abandonment and more have perhaps broken your heart. Maybe you thought by now that you would have been at a different place physically and/or spiritually in life. But even in the midst of your situation today, God says, “Have hope.” The Lord’s loving kindness never ceases. Jeremiah is both honestly realistic and authentically hopeful. In verse 21, he gives his appraisal of conditions in Jerusalem, under the rule of the Babylonians, which was filled with anguish. The ruins of the city and the Temple, as well as the deportation of the best citizens to Babylonia, broke the prophet’s heart, and most of all, the people of God failed to connect what had happened and the judgment upon them for their Apostasy (a total desertion of, or departure from one’s religion, principles, etc.). One can easily identify in Chapter 1, 2, and 3 through verses 20, the hopelessness expressed. Do you feel hopeless as you appraise your situation? Follow on in the text and you will note in verse 21 a change in the MOOD and SPIRIT. Jeremiah not only remembers all the tragedy, but also remembers the Lord’s loving-kindness. His spirit begins to rise, and then soars in exuberant joy. The Lord is not finished with the prophet or with His beloved saints today. But Jeremiah bases his hope on the lord, not on any inherent goodness in people. He confesses, “The Lord is my partner, says my soul; therefore, I have hope in Him.” Just as Jeremiah recaptures a basic thought which infused his emotions with excitement, I call on you to remember that God is good to those who wait on Him, seek Him and completely trust Him. When you do that, you too will be able, realistically, to see things as they are, and also hope for what God will do. Amen. Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully, Bishop Dr. Wm. LaRue Dillard Parish Under-Shepherd

know you’ve heard like I have how awesome Bishop Dillard is doing since his heart transplant. WOW! Is the Lord we serve awesome or what?

“We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God.” (Romans 8:28 NLT) God knows what He’s doing when we have no clue! Do we, I began to wonder; why is this happening at the time to someone I love, or even me? Its happening (I believe) so that our faith will be increased and the power of the Lord is revealed to us once more. Not to mention it gives us an additional testimony. As we operate in our daily lives, are we giving glory to God daily? I believe that He may interrupt our lives at times so we will remember that He is still in charge. I’m NOT saying that’s what happened in Bishop’s case, (don’t even think that). I’m saying look at your own life and how you live it. When your pattern is interrupted with illness or a death in the family, or when you lose your job or your home; a spouse leaves or dies, did God get our attention in a negative or positive way? My brothers and sisters in Christ please know that when God allows the devil to cause difficulties in our life, rest assured the God’s got it under control and HE will have the last say; it will always work out for the Glory of God! Love you in Christ, Peggy LaBon

I am Yours, Lord, yet teach me all it means, all it involves of love and loyalty, of holy service, full and glad, in unreserved obedience to Thee! ~Bennett

At Sunday School they were learning how God created everything, including human beings. Johnny was especially intent when the teacher told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs. Later in the week his mother noticed him lying down as though he were ill, and said, "Johnny, what is the matter?" Johnny responded, "I have pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife."

n The PrayFit Diet, Pena shows us how faith is the most powerful tool we have to conquer all of life's obstacles, and that includes our health. More importantly, God wants you to be at your best, physically and spiritually. By combining perfectly proportioned meals with biblically based motivation, The PrayFit Diet will give you all the tools you need to live a life that will both inspire you and honor the Lord.

Christianity is one of the most influential religions in history. It's the largest religion the world has ever known and it's responsible for the largest institution the world has ever known, the Christian Church.

T

homas Hitchcock, “As I Stand” is a feature film about two young men whose families are faced with unexpected tragedies. This is a heartwarming story that follows Devin Wheeler and Matthew Daniels as they search for peace and understanding through God. While Devin turns to his faith for strength and guidance, Matthew turns away from his faith, placing blame and demanding answers. As situations in their lives continue to change, each man handles the road ahead in very different ways. The story comes to full circle when both men meet at crossroads and face the same question … Would you love God for nothing? This is a compelling story with rave reviews from the Dove Foundation. The movie can be viewed on Pure Flix, or purchased on line for $7.99. Happy viewing!

Sister Marilyn Croft

M

arilyn Croft has been a member of Second Baptist Church since childhood. She grew up attending Sunday School, and still attends Sunday School. Marilyn served in BTU and sung in the choir under the leadership of the late, Reverend George Godfrey Bailey, by whom she was water baptized. In 2004, after being away from Second for many years, Marilyn received the Lord Jesus as her personal savior and restored her membership under the bishopric of Bishop Dillard, and has been a faithful member every since. Marilyn demonstrates her love and faithfulness to God by participating in worship services and serving in Ministries. After completing her New Members Orientation classes and receiving the “Right-Hand-Of-Fellowship,” she joined the Praise Team and the Voices of Unity Choir. She continues to in the choir and served as the choir’s secretary from 2011-2013. She also serves in the Mission of Mercy Ministry, and was its secretary from 2006-2014. In 2007, she served on the Black History Committee; from 2008-2010, she served on the Church Constitution and By-Laws Revision Committee, and in 2010, on the Personnel Committee. Marilyn also likes to enjoy herself outside of church activities and functions: For example, her favorite things to do are shopping, going to the movies, taking long drives, traveling and spending time with her son and grandchildren. Her hobbies include planning, organizing, and coordinating parties and events, giving great attention to detail; and producing a yearly calendar for her family to chronicle yearly family activities/events. Marilyn is a real sports enthusiast who loves the Los Angeles Lakers and “Kobe Bryant.” Because of her work at Warner Brothers, she had the opportunity of meeting Kobe at the screening of the “Wild, Wild, West” movie, starring Will Smith, in 1999. Some of Marilyn’s accomplishments that she doesn’t mind sharing are: She is an Alumni of Monrovia High School; after graduating began a career with GTE where she worked for 25 years as an operator, and a supervisor. After GTE, she attended Watterson College in Pasadena, California, where she earned a Legal Secretary certificate, graduating with a 3.92 GPA. Marilyn has been employed with Warner Brothers Studios since 1997, as a Contract Administrator. Her greatest achievement in life is her family. She is the proud mother of one son, Darnell Croft, three grandchildren; Christopher Graham, Keyona Tiller, and Jadelyn Croft; one great-granddaughter, Baby Kelli, and one godson, Kristopher Chavis. Congratulations for being SBC Gazette Spotlight Recipient.

“Oh, My Aching Back!” Part I

I

f you have lower back pain, you are not alone. Nearly everyone at some point has back pain that interferes with work, daily routine activities, or recreation. Americans spend at least $50 billion each year on low back pain cost, which is the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed work.

Back pain is the second most common neurological ailment in the United States-only headaches are more common. Fortunately, most occurrences of low back pain go away within a few days. Others take much longer to resolve, or lead to more serious conditions. Acute or short-term low back pain generally lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Most acute back pain is mechanical in nature – the results of trauma to the lower back or a disorder such as arthritis. Pain from trauma may be caused by a sports injury, work around the house, in the garden, or a sudden jolt such as a car accident or other stress on spinal bones and tissues. Symptoms may range from muscle ache to shooting or stabbing pain, limited flexibility and/or range of motion, or an inability to stand straight. Occasionally, pain felt in one part of the body may “radiate” from a disorder or injury elsewhere in the body. Some acute pain syndromes can become more serious if left untreated. Please watch for Part II of “Oh, My Aching Back” in the November issue of Second’s Gazette Newsletter. Remember to Stay Healthy and …

uddenly I'm wondering this barren, arid land, As brothers and sisters we've drifted apart, Time away from you is a desert trek, I am thirsty!!! With sun baked thoughts you appear to me in a mirage, Your smile cools my burning skin, which desires to be refreshed, Blessed to be at peace when you give me the drink I need, I taste your sweet, nourishing soul as you feed me respect and exhortation. Neglect hovers as the vultures cry, I hear your faint response, I reach for you, Yet, I cannot touch your concern, Waves of heat emanate over the desolate sands of time, The horizon no longer visible, I continue to travel, craving your fellowship, as the sun rises, I begin to dissipate.

My Second Baptist Church Experience Dylon Adkison

B

eing at Second Baptist Church is an outstanding milestone for me. I actually can not think of a better church to be at right now because everyone is kind; and every Sunday, it feels as if I am surrounded by family. Being saved at this church is something I will never forget. Not only that, but being baptized is another experience I will never forget. Every since my family and I started coming to this church, I feel the blessing have increased. Teens-In-Progress (TIP) is also very beneficial program for me. I enjoy it because it’s more my pace. I enjoy the TIP teachers and I enjoy the activities we do, from Bible study and the activities, I find myself excited to wake up to go to church on Sundays. After becoming involved with the church and becoming official members, my family and I have acquired many new friends and a new family.

S

econd Baptist its that time of year again "Football Season" and the Monrovia High School football team is off to a good start with a preseason record 3-1. Our own Lawrence Spicer had a outstanding game against Los Altos scoring 3 touchdowns one the game winning touchdown with 26 seconds left on a pass from the quarterback in the end zone. Los Altos gets the ball on their own 20 yard line with only one play and 4 seconds. The quarterback drops back and throws and out of know where comes Second Baptist Lawrence Spicer to intercept the ball. Game over Monrovia win 27 Los Altos 25. Lawrence thanks Coach Walls, and his prayer warriors! Second’s Gazette
