Bishop’s Epistle:

August 7, 2016

THE SECRET OF GROWTH IS SUBMISSION TO THE POTTER’S HAND! (Jeremiah 18: 1-11) Sons and Daughters of My Flock, Grace to you! The other morning, I was in prayer and I lifted you before the Lord, asking Him to surge upon you with a freshness of His anointing, based in His Word. I want so much for you to grow in your Christian faith as you walk daily with the Lord. I thought about Jeremiah’s experience at a potter’s house in Jeremiah 18. “The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying: ‘Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words” (Jeremiah 18:1). The Lord reminded this prophet that He was the eternal Potter of His people. I also reflected on the eminent apostle Paul’s words in Ephesians- “We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works.” (Ephesians 2:10). The Greek word for “workmanship,” poiema, a thing of beauty, came to mind. The saints’ potter’s hand is the Holy Spirit. Our lives, as well as our times, are in His hands. We are His assignment. As the clay is in the human potter’s hand, so we are being molded by His hand. When we are converted, we are placed on the wheel to be shaped into the image of what we were meant to be. We become new creations when we are born again, but the molding of that creation into the potter’s pattern, Christ, takes His skillful hands. He presses His loving, strong hand and skillful fingers upon us. In all of life’s circumstances - the ups and downs of life, the joy and the pain - He fashions us into the people we were destined to be. It’s part of our “rebirth right” and He is faithful to see it through to completion. We are not what we used to be before Spirit Baptism and, praise the Holy Spirit, we are not going to stay what we are at any stage of growth. Our waiting times, when we are yielded and still to the Potter’s touch, are in our daily counseling sessions with the Holy Spirit. The secret of growth is submission to the Potter’s hand. Years ago Adelaide Pollard (1862-1934) wrote: “Have Thine own way, Lord, have Thine own way, thou art the Potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me after Thy will. While I am waiting, yielded and still.” The secret of your growth is submission to Him. Amen Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully, Bishop Dr. Wm. La Rue Dillard Parish under-shepherd
