June 18, 2017 The Holy Spirit the Sealing Agent of the Father!

Bishop’s Epistle

CHRISTIANS ARE TWICE-BORN AND THEREFORE HAVE NO FEAR OF DEATH!

Brothers and Sisters, Grace to you! We turn to the Word of God for understanding and personal growth, especially when it comes to our eternal relationship with God, the Father. We read in Ephesians 1:13-14, these words: “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purposed possession, to the praise of His glory.” I asked the text. What is this sealing of the Holy Spirit? We need to be very clear about the metaphor of sealing because it gives us a vivid picture of how the Holy Spirit assumes and continues His work as our Counselor. In the New Testament times and throughout history, people have used a seal on an object to indicate ownership. Sealing was done by dripping hot wax on to an item and then pressing a person’s seal into it. The biblical meaning of the sealing of the Holy Spirit - We get a clue to the spiritual from Jesus’ words about His own sealing. In John 6:27, He said: “Do not labor for food which perishes, but for the food which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on him.” Jesus was referring to His baptism (Matthew 3:16-17); thus, was the authenticating sealing of the divine and human Son of Man. This was the father’s seal upon His Messianic ministry. The divine Son of God living in human flesh received the sealing that eventually would be administered by the Holy Spirit in those who came to believe in Him as Savior and Lord after His crucifixion and resurrection. Bless God Indeed, after Jesus’ ascension and glorification, He did return as reigning Lord entrusted with the Father’s authority to be Spirit Baptizer of believers with the Holy Spirit. All this is involved in the sealing of the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our eternal inheritance.
