CHECK IN/ CHECK OUT SPORT: 2012 AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS Just before the Olympics kicks off, there’s another major event for sport fans to get fully involved with... Check out... an international sporting event in 2012 that doesn’t begin with the letter ‘O’ and ends in ‘lympics’. The finest in African Nations football will be gathered early next year for a fight to the (non-literal) death to prove who’s the best at the 4-4-2. Co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, will five-time winners (Egypt) prove victorious again, or will Cameroon or South Africa take it all the way to the top? The finals are from 21 January to the 12 February and will be broadcast on the BBC 8 / RWDMAG.COM SHOPPING: BOXPARK™ Take a break from the High Street in favour of a more innovative shopping experience. Check in... BOXPARK™ pop-up mall. Located in the heart of Shoreditch, this innovative set-up is adding a little oomph to the credit-card-crunching encounter. Utilising the concept of basic building blocks built on top of each other, the mall is due to stay in Shoreditch for the next five years. Rather than your average everyday stores, BOXPARK™ has gathered a creative group of fashion outlets, including (deep breath) 55DSL, Nike, Puma, Lacoste L!ve, Dockers, Luke, ONETrueSaxon, New Era, Evisu, Calvin Klein, Vans, Oakley, Urbanears, OnePiece, The North Face and Etnies. Add into the mix cafes, art galleries and concept stores from the likes of Amnesty and Penguin Books, and you’ll find it hard to return to return to the High Street ever again. ART: THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED Take a look at photos from artists since departed from planet earth. Check out... Some amazing photography. Do you still get a bit sniffley when Back To Black hits the radio waves (we do). Can’t apply your eyeliner without tearing up when you play Leave Me Alone (yeah, that too). Sounds like you’d better check out this exhibition of iconic photographs from deceased pop stars past and present. A series of images of influential musicians including Amy, alongside the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain and John Lennon. Head to Proud, Camden, NW1, from 14 December to 5 February 2012. (FD)
