Gas Safety Week is an annual Safety Awareness week trying to raise the profile and importance of both natural and LPG gas safety.
and up to 250,000 illegal gas jobs may be carried out each year (Gas Safe Register Research 2009).
Its aims are to encourage the public to take care of your gas appliances especially as we approach the start of the heating season. It is co-ordinated by the Gas Safe Register with support from the gas industry including retailers, manufacturers, consumer bodies and their Gas Safe registered engineers.
♦ Although there is awareness that gas appliances need to be safety checked annually, 43% of Britons don’t do it, and 10% have gas appliances which have never been checked
♦ Twenty one million households in United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Guernsey use gas (natural and LPG) for heating, hot water and cooking, yet we take it for granted that our boilers, cookers and gas fires are safe. Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Don't forget to check your engineer's Gas Safe ID card. They should all carry one with them. If you are unsure, you can check this also on the Gas Safe website or by calling 0800 408 5500

This year sees the third Gas Safety Week taking place, from 16th – 22nd September 2013. With national advertising, media coverage and events throughout the week, we want gas safety messages to reach far and wide right at the start of heating season.
KEEP YOUR HOME SAFE We rely on our gas boilers, cookers and fires to keep warm, have hot baths and showers and cook hot meals. It’s important that gas appliances are safety checked every year and regularly serviced to help keep us safe. Just as you get your car MOT completed and serviced every year, you should have your home gas safety checked every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
♦ Every year thousands of people across the UK are diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning. It is a highly poisonous gas. You can’t see it, taste it or smell it, but it can kill quickly with no warning.
♦ Gas Safe Register estimate that there are a hard core of around 7,500 illegal gas fitters operating across the UK
If you rent out your property, even to family or friends, it is compulsory by law that this is
done annually to avoid the risk of invalidating your home insurance. You can find a list of Gas Safe registered engineers in your area on their website www.gassaferegister.co.uk
Getting your appliances regularly serviced can actually save you money too as it helps to ensure that your system is running efficiently, thereby reducing fuel costs. It prolongs the life of your system much the same as having your car serviced does for your vehicle.
Remember also that if you have had a new boiler installed in recent years, then annual servicing of such helps to validate your boiler warranty.

NWP's Variety Gala Night features magician/ illusionist Luke Cook, who has appeared in Cromer's Seaside special and also Thursford’s Christmas Spectacular.
Luke will be joined onstage by instrumentalist Rachel King who has played in hotels and on boats around the world and also popular local singer Dale Bullimore, who has been singing since a very young age and can these days be found supporting bands, singing in pubs, holiday camps and also Cromer Carnival.
