Yell, continued from page 52 Take a few days to tour Brearley Cemetery in Dardanelle, the Kimball House on Front Street in Dardanelle, Mountain View Farm in Plainview, Spring Lake Recreation Area in Stafford, the Mickles Bridge in Mickles or the Ward’s Crossing Bridge in Plainview along with the other 16 locations on the National Register of Historic Places in Yell County. The Arkansas River borders the northern portion of Yell County, near the county’s largest city, Dardanelle. In the late 1800s, a pontoon bridge was constructed, allowing traffic to pass from Pope County into Yell County. The bridge was famously marked the longest pontoon bridge in the world and operated until 1929. It has since been replaced by a four-lane, steel bridge.

Yell County is poultry-prominent. Poultry production is the most significant industry in Yell County. There are numerous poultry farms and three major processing plants. Agriculture in general is a prominent source of employment for area residents. Soybeans, rice, corn, rowcrops, hog and cattle operations are a common visual aspect up and down major highways and dirt roads alike. Yell County hosts a multitude of summer festivals where small towns, friends and family gather to exhibit the best they have to offer: a sense of kinship, community and opportunities.
