Justin Thomas 2012 National Collegiate Player of the Year
national honors In his first season at the Capstone in 2012, Justin Thomas joined some of the most decorated collegiate golfers in the history of the Alabama program. Thomas, a native of Goshen, Ky., was named the consensus National Collegiate Player of the Year in 2012, winning the Jack Nicklaus Award, the Fred Haskins Award and the Phil Mickelson Award, which goes to the nation’s most outstanding freshman. He advanced to the semifinals of the United States Amateur and was named to the U.S. team for the 2012 World Amateur Team Championships. Thomas was a unanimous first-team All-American and was a Freshman All-America selection. Thomas also garnered SEC Player and Freshman of the Year honors. In 1993, Marten Olander was named the recipient of the prestigious Ben Hogan Award. Alabama’s Michael Thompson (2008) and Bud Cauley (2009 and 2011) have also been finalists for the Ben Hogan Award.
