On that summer festival night many people’s night wish was to warm up a bit as the temperature was reaching only two degrees! Luckily, the Nightwish’s well guarded dressing room where I was to meet the band’s bassist was pretty warm, silent and cozy. The promoters will make sure our conversation doesn’t last more than ten minutes. Let’s try, however, it won’t be easy. Here’s the legend of the Finnish music scene, Marco Hietala.
Good evening Northern King! [Northern Kings is one of the bands Marco played with - RA] Sorry you had to wait. I just got myself some tea. I just realized that it’s been almost 8 years since I saw you for the last time. It was during Sauna Open Air festival and you were running from a headlining show with Nightwish to an after party during which you would play with Tarot. Oh yes, yes. That was a fast change! I remember that one!
Are you still in such hurry? Not today. Not like this. I had a pretty relaxing day. I went to the hotel, had some food. It was after three o’clock. Later I took a day nap, woke up after eight in the evening. So yes, it was a very relaxing day. [laughs]
In what stage of life are you now? What’s behind you and what’s ahead of you …? What stage of life… hmm… I don’t know. We have these lives that seem to go round in circles. At times I have a little bit more free time and time off. I can stay at home and do my things with my familiy. Then we start recording an album, then we release the album, we go on tour. So now I’m on touring stage.
