Here are some interesting things to know about Goodyear As people from around the world continue to visit Goodyear, there are a number of interesting facts about the city of more than 70,000 that visitors passing through may or may not know. n The City of Goodyear is named after Charles Goodyear, the founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, Ohio.

n Goodyear played a key role in the country’s defense efforts during World War I and World War II. During World War I, the cotton

fields in Goodyear yielded more than crops for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. that were used in most of the rubber in the majority of tires for 11,000 airplanes. During World War II, Goodyear Aircraft Corp. manufactured more than three million pounds of aircraft frames. n Goodyear Aircraft Corp. was where some of the famous Goodyear Blimps were manufactured that hovered over the Rose and Orange Bowl football games and the Indianapolis 500.

n Goodyear played a key role in a Thanksgiving Day tradition in the 1950s. A group of women who worked at Goodyear Aircraft in Arizona manufactured the huge balloons of cartoon
