Produce P rodu odu uce Auction n Fennimore Produce Auction is located at 14800 County Highway T, 4 miles north of Fennimore to Highway 61 to County Highway T then ½ mile east to auction building. The auction barn offers locally grown farm fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and nursery stock. Fennimore Produce Auction is a wholesale produce auction supplied by growers within a 100 mile radius of Fennimore. The produce is picked fresh, just hours before the sale; the majority of items are produced on nearby Amish farms. The auction is a great market for wholesale buyers such as roadside stands, grocery stores and restaurants. Small lots are also sold to anyone interested in household consumption or canning. Auction dates change by the season running from May through October and range from once a week in the spring to three times a week during the peak growing season. In Grant County, we have a large variety of farms that offer fresh produce, products such as honey, specialty popcorn or mustards and other special one-of-a-kind items such as artwork. Some farm businesses have their own farm stands or art studios, may take orders online or can be found at the local Gluten-Free Breads farmer’s markets in Platteville, Cassville and Fennimore. Explore the agricultural history of the area by visiting the State Agricultural Museum at Stonefield Historic Site in Cassville or the barbed wire exhibit at the Passage Through Time Museum in Potosi. See how one of Wisconsin’s most well known beverages — beer — was brewed in the 1800s at the American Breweriana Museum in the Potosi Brewery. The Great River Road winds through 60 miles of beautiful Grant County and its riverside communities. Stop to stretch your legs at either of our famous state parks – Nelson Dewey or Wyalusing - both of which feature trails, restroom facilities, camping and picnic areas for your enjoyment. Our unglaciated and pastoral landscapes can be investigated more closely by state-designated Rustic Roads. Some in Grant County include Scenic, Sleepy Hollow Roads and Liberty Ridge Road. The Irish Ridge Road between Potosi and Cassville will also fill you with beautiful views that won’t easily be erased from your memory. Love rural life? If you don’t mind sharing the roads during planting and harvest seasons with tractors and horse-drawn buggies, you’ve come to the right place! It’s well worth your patience to view the patchwork of fields, hardwood stands and streams that earmark our great county. Grant County is steeped in history and much of it is in evident in many of our historic downtowns. Great care has been taken to preserve a number of these historic buildings. Old churches and farms, cemeteries, breweries, one-room school houses and mines dot our landscape as monuments to our founding fathers. Our northern boundary is marked by the dark and ever-changing Wisconsin River. State Highway 133 and County Highway C wind alongside its undeveloped public lands. Camping is allowed on state-owned islands and shores. The lower Wisconsin River provides explorers miles of secluded backwaters, islands and sandy beaches to discover. To our west is the legendary Mississippi River. Several state and county highways take you to many boat landings and to opportunities for hiking, camping and wildlife observation. The bluffs that line our rivers and streams are adorned with a variety of tree, plant and flower species. Wildlife is abundant. FENNIMORE MEMORIAL PARK located at Lincoln Avenue and 8th Street was the site of a ground breaking ceremony in September 2011. The new memorial will consist of a polished China black granite title stone honoring Fennimore area servicemen and women. Ten additional stones will have names of servicemen and women etched in appropriate stones designating each war honoring who served within each timeframe. Landscaping and foundations for the memorial are in place. The title stone is ordered and will be installed in 2012. Granite benches, flag poles and flower beds will offer a peaceful vita for local residents and travelers passing through Fennimore. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary and American Legion continue fundraising to cover the cost of the memorial. Donations may be made at Fennimore American Bank or by calling (608) 822-3983.

VETERANS HONOR ROLL MEMORIAL located in downtown City Park, Platteville, WI was dedicated on 11-1111. This beautiful memorial will be completed in the spring of 2012. A formal ribbon cutting will be held on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. There are a series of eight 7' high statues representing wars from the Revolutionary, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf and one representing women veterans that are showcased on large platforms. Names of over 3,500 area veterans are etched into granite panels of the Memorial..

This mountain bike event typically falls on the last weekend of September/first weekend of October. The Lower Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers form 110 miles of river frontage on the northern and western boundaries of Grant County. The Mississippi River is known for its excellent pan fish, large & smallmouth bass, walleye, northern, sauger and all species of catfish. DESIGNATED DNR GRANT COUNTY TROUT STREAMS The trout streams located in central and northern Grant County offer some of the finest fishing in the Midwest. Many of the trout streams have fishing easements, that provide easy access to lunker rainbow, brook and brown trout. Many of the streams in this area are catch and release. No matter what you’re fishing for, Grant County provides you the opportunity to fill your creel or livewell and create lasting memories.

Experience Rural Wisconsin Life In 1900 At Stonefield Historic Site Nelson Dewey, Wisconsin’s first governor farmed this land. He had high hopes for this pastoral stretch of land nestled between the Mississippi River and the spectacular limestone bluffs that tower above it. He called his beloved riverside agricultural estate Stonefield. While his farming enterprise faded into history, the name he gave it lives on at a historic site that pays homage to Dewey and the history of agriculture in Wisconsin. Return to Stonefield’s historic roots on a guided tour of Governor Nelson Dewey’s home site, offering a sweeping vista overlooking a re-created 1900 rural farming village beside the Mississippi River. Visit a 1900 farmstead and stroll quiet village streets lined with thirty historic shops and businesses. Explore the State Agricultural Museum, which tells the story of Wisconsin’s agriculture from before farm mechanization, through the rise and fall of wheat farming and the advent of the dairy industry, and into the 20th century. See Wisconsin’s largest collection of historic farm implements ranging from incredibly detailed miniature McCormick patent models to full-size tractors, reapers and threshing machines. The museum’s extensive exhibits include an Allis-Chalmers Model U tractor, the first rubber tire tractor produced, and the 1896 McCormick Auto-mower, the oldest existing tractor in North America. Step inside Governor Dewey’s historic 1870 stone barn and peruse the museum shop’s full line of books, note cards, candies, arts-and-crafts items and other souvenirs harking back to Wisconsin’s agricultural heyday. Stonefield is one of the newest Great River Road Interpretive Centers and features a new exhibit, “River Connections,’’ which tells the story of the site’s connections to the Mississippi River.
Grant River Recreation Area The Army Corps of Engineers Recreation Area is a class A campground located two miles south of Potosi/Tennyson, WI, along the Mississippi River off Hwy. 133. Barges on the mighty Mississippi pass peacefully by with the silence interrupted by an occasional train. Open from mid-April until late October, the recreation area has 73 campsites-63 with electricity. Water, dump station, restrooms and showers are available. The Grant River Recreation Area also has such amenities as playgrounds, boat dock, fishing, covered shelters, picnic areas and interpretive programs periodically on weekends making it a popular family getaway.

This historic area has become the site of one of Wisconsin’s greatest archeological finds ever. The banks of the river revealed a large burial site. It belonged to the Woodland Indians who lived here 1000 years ago. Found at this site were copper instruments and jewelry. The Woodland Indians came to this region from the shores of Lake Michigan. Grant River Recreation area is connected to the site. The Corps of Engineers Park Rangers protect this area under Title 36 Federal Regulations. No digging or ground disturbance is allowed.

In 1976, Cuba City adopted the name of “City of Presidents.â€? Large shields showing the silhouettes of each president are displayed on the street light poles of Main Street. Our water tower is painted the colors of the national ag. In 2007, our schools won the Blue Ribbon School Award, awarded by the Department of Education, which is a ďŹ ve year award.
