Proposal for the AAaw (AA Alumni Workshop) which took place in Penang, Malaysia July 2012. The project proposes the reuse of CD Roms as a building component for a canopy sehltering infill areas of George Town Penang, which is a UNESCO heritage site. The infill spaces could be used as a network of gathering areas for Hawkers, or street food vendors which are an integral part of the history and culture of Penang. CD's are the main material used, not only becuase this material is increasingly becoming redundant but also becuase of its interesting quality of mimicing the phenomena of 'Structural Colours' found in natural systems. The workshop took place during 10 days in Noordin Mews where local student helped groups of 3 alumni to visualize and a build a prototype of the proposal. The project was presented to Think City, an urban think tank in malaysia which received the idea with positive feedback.
