The majority of melanoma is caused by UV light and sun exposure. The Melanoma Program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, located in northern Manhattan, provides comprehensive care for this common, and one of the most serious of all cancers, offering treatment services for cutaneous, ocular, and mucosal melanoma. Dr. Bret Taback, MD (Director of the Melanoma Treatment Program at CUMC) and dermatologists lead a multidisciplinary team and offer comprehensive, coordinated patient services including: Screening, MoleMap (full body scan) technology for high-risk patients, radiation treatment, gamma knife surgery, excisional surgery, sentinel node biopsy, and other appropriate surgical procedures. Immunotherapies such as Interleukin-2 (IL-2) treatment and clinical trials in the treatment of melanoma are available for appropriate patients.
