70th Primary School of Athens


The 6th grade of the 70th Primary School of Athens presents you the adventures of Etwin and Ning in Greece!



First the children decide to visit Olympia in 776 B.C. This is where the Ancient Greeks had their first Olympic Games.



During the Games all wars stopped and the winner was given an olive tree branch. Women were not allowed to watch the Games!



Suddenly Etwin and Ning are at the Delphi Oracle. It’s the 8th century B.C. and they see the temple of Apollo.



They decide to explore the temple and talk to Pythia.



Next Etwin and Ning visit Athens in 490 B.C.. Suddenly they see a soldier running. He shouts ΝΕΝΙΚΗΚΑΜΕΝ (we won) and then he dies. It is Pheidipides. He ran 42km from Marathon to Athens just to say that the Greeks had won at the Battle of Marathon. He was the first Marathon runner.



Etwin and Ning, after a tiring journey through time, arrive at the Theropyles in 480 B.C. They meet Leonidas and learn about the Battle of Thermopyles between the Greeks and the Persians.



Leonidas was the King and the Leader of the 300 Spartans. On the other hand, Xerxes was the Leader of the millions of Persians.



Finally Leonidas and his soldiers were killed. He was famous for his answer to Xerxes «ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ» which means “Come and get it”



Next Etwin and Ning travel to Athens in 447 B.C. They meet Calicrates the architect of the Parthenon. The Parthenon was dedicated to Goddess Athena the protector of the city of Athens.



Now they go to 443 B.C. but the Parthenon is not finished yet.



Finally they travel to 438 B.C. and they can see that the Parthenon is ready!



Etwin and Ning walk in the ancient market in Athens. It’s the 5th century B.C.. There are people buying clothes and jewels. Two children are playing with their toy.



The children wear the ancient clothes and Etwin gives her bow for a tunic.



The children keep walking in ancient Athens. They see a statue of Hermes, the gods’ messenger and protector of the travellers.



Etwin and Ning meet Sokrates the Athenian Philosopher. Sokrates was sentenced to death!



They also meet Aristophanes, the famous comic playwright!



Their next stop is at Pella in 341 B.C.. They meet Alexander the Great and his father King Philip. Alexander is riding a horse named Voukefalas!



Now they are in 334 B.C.. Alexander the Great and his army are leaving for Asia‌



Etwin and Ning are again back in Athens. They are visiting Areios Pagos which means the Rock of Ares. It was the first Greek court. There they tried and condemned criminals.



In 52 A.D. Apostle Paul came to Areios Pagos and talked to the Greeks about Christianity.



Finally Etwin and Ning visit the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Herodes built it in 161 A.D. in memory of his wife.



It is made of stone and you can still watch theatrical plays or concerts in this theatre!
