Pathman Senathirajah charmed his readers with even a moron with a dream… in which he chronicled his humble beginnings to his present position as Managing Director of The V. The RYTHM House Publishing team gets up close and personal with this vibrant author, whose new book This is How We Do It will be released at V-Malaysia 2011.
How did you feel when even a moron with a dream… was first published? I was shocked and humbled because never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined myself publishing a book. I was also extremely proud because I was able to launch the book with Dato’ Vijay Eswaran and my late mother. I would rate my book launch as one of my proudest moments, even more than my graduation from university.
How did your expectations measure up to the real-life publishing process? I expected it to be a boring and mundane process, but instead it was a lot of fun because as you write the book you are forced to think. The greatest challenge was to create the book in view of the audience, but I love the process. I love writing books.
What was your inspiration behind even a moron with a dream…? My inspiration came from my humble beginnings and the fact that my current lifestyle became possible. Dato’ Vijay Eswaran gave me the idea to write a book. When he first told me, I fell off my chair laughing. But then I realised that he was serious. I could not have done it without him explaining to me the impact it would have on the network.
What gives you the inspiration to write your second book, This is How We Do It? I realised that there are many books on the MLM industry in the market today, but most of them are academic and Americanised. I wanted to write a book that is more real and based more on my personal experience. I believe this book will cater to a wider audience.
What is This is How We Do It about? Simply put, the book is about the truth of the network marketing industry and what it takes to become successful. It also introduces various concepts that I applied in my networking journey. Some of them may be unorthodox but have worked. And I want this book to be something people can read and apply practically in their journey to financial freedom.
What are you reading right now? I’m reading a very interesting book, Maverick: The Success Story Behind the World’s Most Unusual Workplace by Ricardo Semler. The book is about how Semler, the CEO or ‘counselor’ of Semco, a Brazilian manufacturing firm, turned his successful company into a ‘natural business’ in which employees can hire and evaluate their bosses, dress however they want, participate in major decisions, and share 22 per cent of the company profits.
What is your favourite book? One of the books that influenced me greatly is a book by my mentor, Dato’ Vijay Eswaran, called In the Sphere of Silence. This book humbled me and made me see my strengths and weaknesses with much more clarity.
What is the difference between even a moron with a dream… and This is How We Do It? even a moron with a dream… is about life itself and how even a ‘nobody’ can become a ‘somebody’ if he sets his mind to it. It is not just directed to network marketing. However, This is How We Do It is about networking, techniques, systems and tips that can be implemented in network marketing.
What is the difference between being an author and being the Managing Director of The V? As a Managing Director, I am the boss. As an author, the editors are my bosses.
