The Bioscience department of Pondicherry University Community College celebrated the National Science Day on 12.3.09. To enrich and harvest the talents of the students of Biochemistry and Biotechnology courses, papers were presented covering a wide spectrum of topics ranging from space to cell. About 21 students participated. The students went on a field trip (19th March 2009) to the Marine Biology department of the Annamalai University. They visited the tissue culture laboratory at the Biotechnology department as well as the Research Laboratory of the Biochemistry department at Pondicherry University on 27th March 2009. The students participated (21st January 2009, 13th March 2009, 24th March 2009 & 31st March 2009) in various competitions like elocution; essay and poetry writing as well as paper presentation at the state level symposiums conducted by various institutions in and around Pondicherry and won prizes. The faculty of the department attended (13th March 2009 & 24th March 09) the National Seminars conducted by the Depts. of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Ecology & Environmental Sciences, Pondicherry University and by few other colleges of Tamilnadu. About 10 students have taken admission in Master’s degree by merit in reputed Universities.

À The play “Paaripadukalam” written and directed by Pralayan as part of One Month Play Production Workshop sponsored by Regional Resource Centre of National School of Drama, Bangalore was well received for its creative aesthetics of reading the history of the Tamils. The performance of PaariPadukalam was widely discussed in blogs and websites. Lot of critical reviews appeared in the leading newspapers and journals. The Department of Performing Arts play “Paari Padukalam” was performed on 25th December 2008 at the International Theatre Festival organised by Kerala Sangeeth Nataka Academi, Kerala. The reception of the play was tremendous and the Department was in receipt of more invitations from lot of theatre organisations and students organisations of the University and Colleges of Tamil Nadu. As part of the Performance tour programme the play was performed in Thiruvananmalai, Chennai and Ranipet on 29th, 30th and 31st February 2009 respectively. À Dr. V. Arumugham, Reader was assigned to direct

“KARUNCHUZHI” a production of Department of Performing Arts, Pondicherry University. The production was sponsored by the Pondicherry University. The performance of “KARUNCHUZHI” was held at Cultural Complex, Pondichery University. The play was selected for performance at the Karisal Thirai Vizha organised by The M.S. University, Tirunelveli.
