forgot to drain your fuel tank or add a stabilizer during the winter, water may have contaminated the fuel. Pump a small amount of fuel out of the tank and if a layer of water settles above the gasoline after fifteen minutes, the fuel will need to be safely disposed of.

pring is a great time to take stock of your onboard first aid kit and make sure the essentials are stocked and fresh. If you do not have one, you may find a starter kit at a marine supply store. Here are important items to stock: • Headache/pain medication • Topical antibiotic ointment • Sunscreen • Topical anesthetic for sunburn • Band-Aids • Roll bandages • Towel • Splints • Thermal blanket
Take advantage of the boat being high & dry. If your boat spent the winter out of the water, the spring is a great chance to inspect and improve parts of the boat below the waterline. Check the boat bottom for any cracks in the paint and signs of oxidation and give it a fresh coat of wax. The extra time spent now is much preferable to being forced to take
her out of the water in the middle of the summer. This is also your best chance to make sure she looks her best all season. This means polishing the metal and teak on the boat. Neglecting to do this can lead the materials to break down over the years, causing decreased performance and costly repairs.
