La planification de la maison converge vers l’intérieur autour du vide créé par l’escalier de trois étages qui divise en deux les plans : vertical et horizontal. L’espace fait entrer la lumière par le haut et est utilisé comme une cheminée de chaleur qui aspire l’air frais vers le bas et aère la maison à l’aide de lucarnes situées à l’étage supérieur. Ce vide créé par l’escalier est un espace dynamique propice au changement d’atmosphère et d’humeur, selon la lumière naturelle ou l’articulation de la lumière artificielle qui monte et descend le long des murs et à travers les perforations dans le mur de trois étages. À la tombée de la nuit, l’apparence de la maison change de façon drastique. Sa particularité la plus visible vient de la lanterne en forme de cube de 2,5 m située au-dessus de la porte d’entrée. Elle y attire les visiteurs vers la maison à travers un parcours aménagé, en passant devant la piscine qui projette une teinte bleue sur la base de la maison. La lumière souligne des points d’intérêt tout au long du chemin donnant l’impression d’une piste d’aviation alors qu’elle vous guide dans le noir. Ce design provoqua un tel impact dans la région que trois autres projets ont vu le jour dans la même rue. La firme a tenté de créer une bâtisse dont le design et l’utilisation des matériaux resteraient intemporels, espérant qu’avec le temps leurs affirmations seront validées.
www.arkhefield.com.au The planning of the house is focused internally around the three story stair void, which bisects the vertical and horizontal planes. The space brings light in from above and climatically serves as a heat stack which draws cool air in at low level and vents the house through high level louvres. The stair void is a dynamic space, changing its feel and mood dependent on the state of natural light or articulation of artificial light which washes up and down the walls and through punctures in the triple height wall. By night the appearance of the house changes dramatically, with the most noticeable feature being a 2.5m cubed “lantern” over the front door signifying entry and drawing the visitor up through the landscaped journey past the pool which throws a blue hue over the base of the house. Lighting picks up key points along the journey and has an almost “runway” feel as it guides one along through the dark. The design itself had such an impact in the area that 3 other projects have now been undertaken in the same street. The firm has tried to design a building that would be timeless in its design and use of material. It is their hope that through time this assertion will be validated.
