Art, Math & Yoga Camps VISUAL ARTS CAMP

NATURE’S ART AND MATH

Age 5-10 with Dr. Peter Koehler, artist, Ph.D. in Mathematics, researched and taught at Stanford University, and teaches at the Nueva School. This is for creative kids who love the Arts, love to paint and want to learn new imaginative ways to express themselves. We’ll use lots of vibrant paint to create our own interpretation of Monet’s Garden, Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Nature’s Coral Reefs. There will be a large variety of other art materials too: Enjoy pottery clay, selection of wooden pieces to make 3-D sculptures, a variety of colorful paper for collages, and we apply oil pastels in new ways to make designs and scenes of your own imagination . Maybe you are inspired by animals, flowers, by stars and planets, or the Northern Lights. Students should bring a peanut-free snack each day and a smock or apron to cover clothes. Lab fee of $25 payable to instructor at 1st class.

He teaches Math enrichment at The Nueva School where he has encouraged student’s creativity for more than 20 years . Fibonacci Numbers in Nature is some of the most visually magical math you can discover. We”ll explore flowers, pine cones, sand dollars, the nautilus and other shells, and galaxies for their fascinating math. With a great variety of math and art materials: oil pastels, paints, clay, paper folding, colored tiles and cubes, to build and be creative in math. Be inventive with 2-D and 3-D visual patterns, blending Numbers and Shapes. Peter has inspired and brought out a love for math and art in many children by sharing its beauty, its magic and mystery. ANIMAL DRAWING WORKSHOP Age 6-12 with Young Rembrandts Kids love to draw animals! We will imagine ourselves at the zoo as we learn to draw a variety of different animals. On the first and second days, giraffes, lions, tigers, birds and more will be drawn. Our final day will result in one large scene of the zoo, divided into several habitats and incorporating the many animal friends we have learned to draw. FASHION RUNWAY WORKSHOP Age 6-12 with Young Rembrandts This stylish Young Rembrandts workshop is tailored for the aspiring fashionista. Join us for 5 days of runway chic as we illustrate the various aspects of fashion design. Hip hairstyles and awesome accessories will adorn the close-up drawings of our beautiful models. Step into the shoes of a fashion magazine editor as you design and draw an eye-catching fashion magazine cover. And let’s not forget about purses! Design the perfect purse to go along with the outfit of your dreams. And finally, draw your model stepping out onto the runway in your fashion originals. Come learn about Fibonacci numbers, Pascal’s triangle, fractals, secret codes, and much more. We will do fun activities and craft projects to deeper our understanding of mathematical concepts. FUN ART & YOGA CAMP NEW Age 6-10 with Karin Sargis This week is filled with creative art projects including painting, drawing, creating a collage, working with clay and using different art materials. Kids will stretch like tigers, roar like lions and fly like butterflies during their yoga exercise. Please dress kids accordingly as they get messy.
