n a bid to bridge the gap between work and home, employers today are organising Family Days at offices. An employee’s family forms a very important support system for the employee and it is essential for them to know where the employee works and who his/her colleagues are. Yet, most of the times, spouse, children and parents of the employees have never seen their workplaces. During Family Days, family members are invited to do just that. Rajita Singh, HR head of Broadridge Financial Solutions (India) Pvt. Ltd, says, “Family Day is an annual celebration where a host of entertaining and engaging activities are held making the associates’ families feel like an integral part of Broadridge. We ensure that the evening has something in it for everyone, ranging from face painters, inflatables and games jockeys to entertain kids, bangles, mehendi, tarot readers and ittar counters for women, song and dance performances etc. This special annual gathering helps the families of our associates establish a connect with each other. It also gives them an opportunity to be a part of the Broadridge culture and environment.” Debasis Chatterji, CEO of Netxcell Limited, says that Family Days help in achieving greater bonding and team-spirit among the employees as family members of the associates interact with each other. them achieve greater bonding and team spirit as they get to meet colleagues from different departments, which is beyond their routine work purview. Associates spend on an average nine to ten hours in office during weekdays and actually spend fewer active hours at home. In that sense, office is a macro family and home is a micro family. So, it is very important to keep a good balance and association between home and office. If you boost one, the other will be motivated. It is also a great way to get to know more about colleagues at such events when the associates get to meet each others’ families at such gatherings.” Apart from Family Days, companies in the city hold greeting card workshop, talent hunt and chocolate making workshops for family members. Hemanth Karumanchi, an Associate at ADP Private Limited, says, “At ADP, we have regular involvement of families throughout the year via various programmes such as the Family Day, workshops that help develop creative skills such as painting, meditation, yoga, cooking, chocolate-making etc. We also send our regular communication to the family members through an in-house quarterly newsletter “Communiqué” with active contribution from associates. On the eve of New Year, all family members receive a personally signed greeting card and a message by the MD of ADP . All these occasions serve to improve the interaction among associates and their family members.”
