PORTLAND TIMBERS AT CHICAGO FIRE SATURDAY, JUNE 8, 2013 ALL-TIME SERIES NOTES The Timbers have won all three meetings with the Fire, including a 1-0 win in the team’s only trip to Toyota Park on July 16, 2011. The win at Toyota Park marked the first-ever road win the Timbers earned as an MLS club as goalkeeper Troy Perkins made a season-high seven saves and midfielder Jack Jewsbury converted a 25th-minute penalty kick in a physical match that featured seven caution cards and the ejection of Chicago defender Yamith Cuesta in the 63rd minute. Matches between the two sides have often featured physical play and a high volume of cautions. In three games, Portland and Chicago average a combined 30.3 fouls per game and six caution cards. In 2011, the Timbers defeated Chicago 4-2 in the inaugural home-opener at JELD-WEN Field on April 14, 2011, as forward Jorge Perlaza netted a brace and Rodney Wallace added a goal on a rainy night as Portland recorded its first-ever win in MLS. The Timbers recorded their third straight win over the Fire on May 20, 2012, at JELD-WEN Field. Defender Eric Brunner tallied the opening goal in the 20th minute and a Chicago own goal proved the difference in a 2-1 win.

LAST TIME VS. CHICAGO Playing their second game in six days, the Timbers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on defender Eric Brunner’s first goal of the season in the 20th minute, knocking in a half volley from five yard out. Chicago was able to level the score before halftime, as defender Jalil Anibaba got forward in the attack and contributed the equalizer. The decisive goal came in the 52nd minute, an own goal scored by Chicago midfielder Logan Pause, as the result of a dangerous flick by Portland striker Kris Boyd in on the near post. With the victory, Portland extended its unbeaten streak to three matches and improved to 3-5-3 overall. Portland Timbers 2, Chicago Fire 1 May 20, 2012 at JELD-WEN Field (Portland, Ore.)
