Jennifer Marie Chapman

Chapman earns multiple honors

Jennifer Marie Chapman of Bainbridge Island graduated from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California on June 15, 2014. She received a bachelor of architecture degree with summa cum laude honors and the AIA Certificate of Merit for achieving the second highest GPA in her class. She has also received two “Outstanding Architecture Student” awards and Honorable Mention in the Los Angeles Business Council’s Julius Shulman Design Competition. Prior to attending Cal Poly Pomona, she studied photography at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara and received her liberal arts associate’s degree from Santa Barbara City College. The new graduate is a 2004 alumni of Bainbridge High School and granddaughter of Chris and Jim Taylor of Bainbridge island. Though considering graduate school over the coming years, she will remain in Los Angeles to pursue a career in architecture.

Minson honored at Kansas State Hannah Minson of Bainbridge Island has earned honors at Kansas State University for superior academic performance during the spring 2014 semester. Students with at least 12 graded hours and whose grade point average for the semester is 3.75 or above receive semester honors. They also receive commendations from their deans and the honors recorded on their permanent academic records.

Islanders earn degrees at Linfield Three students from Bainbridge Island were awarded degrees at the Linfield College com-

mencement exercises Sunday, June 1. Chandler Brooks Harrison earned a bachelor of arts in elementary education and graduated with magna cum laude honors. Camille Breann Moore was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in electronic arts. Emily Rose Shepard received a bachelor of science degree in management. A total of 743 candidates for degrees were presented at commencement.

Sophia Koval Thackray

Thackray awarded degree at Oregon Sophie Koval Thackray, a member of the Bainbridge High School Class of 2010, received a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish, with minors in art history and political science, from the Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon on June 15, 2014. She will be working with AmeriCorps in Washington D.C. this next year.

Islanders named to WSU honor roll More than 20 students from Bainbridge Island have been recognized for academic achievement at Washington State University and have been named to the WSU president’s honor roll for spring 2014. The super students from Bainbridge Island are Hayley Leigh Eliason; Jason A. Ashton; Forrest J. Carlson; Noel Marie Christiansen; Kendall Brooke Culton; Chloe Nicole Dale; Bryce Warren Cermak Deveaux; Mallory Anne Farrar; Mary Colleen Gruber; Allyson Joy Guy; Kelly Marie Hagerman; Nicholas David King; Morgan Elisabeth Moniz; Emily Miyatake Neeleman; Courtney Tallyn Parker; Chloe Maria Pinto; Elizabeth Meggett Tolley; Karen Ann McCauley Watts; Lauren Michelle Watts; Lydia Kovach Weyand; and Grace Marie Willits. The president’s honor roll recognizes students who stand above the rest with excellent academic performance. To be eligible for the honor roll, undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of nine graded hours in a single term at WSU and earn a grade point average of 3.75 or earn a 3.50 cumulative GPA based on 15 cumulative hours of graded work.

Paul graduates awarded with BS in science Siegel bachelor’s degree Stefani Paul has earned a bachelor of science degree in communication science and disorders at Rockhurst University. Rockhurst University awarded nearly 700 degrees at its 94th annual commencement ceremony Saturday, May 17, at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. Paul, of Bainbridge Island, graduated summa cum laude. In keeping with the student-centered focus at Rockhurst, the program featured two student speakers: Quentin Savwoir, Kansas City, who received bachelor of arts degrees in communication and political science; and Caitlin Flournoy, Overland Park, Kansas, who received a master of education in secondary education. Rockhurst University is one of 28 Catholic, Jesuit universities in the United States.

Kimberley Anne Seigel of Bainbridge Island graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in strategic communications and Tau Sigma honors at Seattle University’s 95th commencement ceremony, held on June 15, 2014. Seigel will intern this summer with the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, prior to pursuing a position in strategic communications research and analysis. A past Zionsville, Indiana resident and business owner, Seigel is the daughter of Richard and June Knarr of Indianapolis. Seigel thanks her husband Ira and stepdaughter Elisabeth for their love and support. Seattle University, founded in 1891, is a Jesuit Catholic university and law school located on 50 acres in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.
