Outboard engine maintenance workshop set GIG HARBOR — The Washington Sea Grant and the Gig Harbor Boat Shop are co-sponsoring an outboard engine maintenance workshop on June 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gig Harbor Boat Shop Eddon Boat Yard, 3805 Harborview Dr. The workshop will be for boaters who want to keep their motors operational. The instructor is Stewart Pugh, who has taught outboard engine repair for 12 years at the Northwest Outdoor Center, while maintaining a fleet of outboards and the schooner Adventurous. It will offer boaters the basics of maintaining small outboard motors, including

fueling, lubrication, electrical inspection, changing oil and diagnosing common problems. The workshop, which cost $30, will cover two- and four-cycle gasoline engines, 15-horsepower and smaller, using actual motors for demonstration. Blumenthal speaking at Kitsap County museum BREMERTON — Maritime author Richard Blumenthal is set to speak June 12 at the Kitsap Historical Society and Museum, 280 Fourth St. The reception is set for 6 p.m. and the program is at 6:30 p.m. A book signing will follow. Tickets are $10 per person and $5 for museum members.

‘Crime Squad’ writers coming June 19 BREMERTON — A contingent of mystery writers who are members of the Seattle 7 authors group is slated to appear June 19 for a Kitsap Regional Library Foundation fundraiser. The event, which starts at 6 p.m. at the Norm Dicks Government Center, will be hosted by Bremerton Mayor Patty Lent. Authors Elizabeth George, Kevin O’Brien, William Dietrich, Mike Lawson, Bernadette Pajer and Robert Dugoni will participate in a moderated discussion of their craft (or whatever subject they choose to pursue), a short trivia contest among the panelists and a Q&A session.

United Way to host golf tournament this month BREMERTON — The first United Way of Kitsap County Golf Classic is set for June 25 at Gold Mountain Golf Course. A shotgun start is planned for 1 p.m. and the tournament will be a scramble. Woman charged for stealing mail By DANNIE OLIVEAUX Editor

Multiple felony charges were filed June 2 against a 56-year-old South Kitsap woman in Kitsap County District Court. Susan Carol Pilon, 56, of Port Orchard, was charged with seven courts of possessing stolen mail. According to charging papers, a female witness apparently saw the woman taking mail from multiple mailbox along Phillips Road on May 22. A witness provided Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies with the license plate number of the car the woman was driving. A male witness, who also lives on Phillips Road, saw the woman take mail from mailboxes and followed her. After attempting to block her vehicle from leaving, he eventually followed her southbound on Locker Road. The woman tossed a large plastic bag out of her window and over the guardrail. The man notified deputies who found the bag that contained more than 80 pieces of mail from 42 victims, stated court document. On May 23, the suspect’s abandoned Saturn was located by a deputy at a county park. No arrest have been made in the case as of press time June 3. The following charges were filed May 28 to June 2 in Kitsap County District Court: • June 3: Tionne Jadean Curry, 22, Port Orchard, third-degree theft. • June 2: Jackson Dale Neal, 52, Port Orchard, driving under the influence; Thomas Robert Martin, 18, Port Orchard, fourth-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief (gross misdemeanor); Kandance Faith Kamer, 31, Port Orchard, violation of court order; Tony Allen Brey, 25, Port Orchard, second-degree theft; Joseph Lawrence Dill, 32, Port Orchard, attempting to elude pursuing police vehicle. • May 31: Sabrina Ann Hendl, 37, Port Orchard, second-degree possession of stolen property. • May 29: Mark Anthony Pratt, 33, Port Orchard, attempting to elude pursuing police vehicle. • May 28: Shanet Vanessa Scott, 23, Port Orchard, fourth-degree assault.
