Nominations sought for seventh Athletic Hall of Fame class FROM STAFF REPORTS
Federal Way Public Schools is seeking nominees for the seventh Athletic Hall of Fame class to honor employees who have made a major impact on the district’s athletic programs. Nominees to the Hall of Fame will be evaluated based on the following criteria: • Has served the district for a minimum of 10 years • Has been retired for at least five years, coached 30 years or deceased • Has made a significant impact on the district’s or a school’s athletic program The Hall of Fame inductees will be honored at Todd Beamer on Oct. 22 and during the Decatur versus Thomas Jefferson football game on Oct. 23. Each Hall of Fame member will receive a plaque and have his or her name inscribed on a special banner placed at Federal Way Memorial Field. Nomination forms are available at Memorial Field or can be requested via email by contacting Greg Flynn at gflynn@fwps.org. The deadline for nominations to be received is May 1.
School district receives $100,000 Gates grant FROM STAFF REPORTS
The Federal Way Public Schools’ (FWPS) Family and Community Partnership Office was recently announced as a recipient of a $100,000 Gates Foundation grant to continue heightened efforts to engage parents through innovative district programs. This is the second year that FWPS has received the grant. The money will benefit the district’s Dynamic Home Visit program, development of parent and community partnership materials, a district-wide partnership summit to be held next fall and professional development.
