He said by the end of the dinner, little food is left. “We have people all over the restaurant and even upstairs,” Baldwin said. “But the fun thing is that there will be lots of kids, ages 6-12, helping serve sodas and busing tables. It so nice to see.” The dinners are free, but donations will be accepted.

Republicans in the 26th Legislative District are set to meet Wednesday, Dec. 4, to help select a replacement for State Rep. Jan Angel, who recently won a seat the state Senate. The meeting will be at the Givens Community Center in Port Orchard. Republican party precinct committee officers will provide Kitsap and Pierce county officials a list of three names in which to choose a successor. The commissioners and council will meet at a later date to select the candidate to fill Angel’s unexpired term. Kitsap County Republican Party Chairman Chris Tibbs said that Wednesday, Nov. 27, is the deadline for candidates to apply for the position. Tibbs said Wednesday was the first day for interested persons to apply. He said he received emails from former congressional candidate Jesse Young and real estate broker Spencer Hutchins declaring interest in the position. Port Orchard councilwoman Cindy Lucarelli said Wednesday she has filed an application with a vetting committee to become a candidate to fill Angel’s seat. Former Pierce County Council member Terry Lea, former congressional candidate Jesse Young and Adam Berman have been mentioned as possible successors.

“They will provide us labor to get the food prepared and on the day of the dinner some volunteers will help serve,” Baldwin said. Baldwin said at the first dinner seven years ago, he had 40 people. But since then it has grown between 300 and 400 people. “Last year we had about 350 people,” Baldwin said.

Volunteers and the staff of MoonDogs,Too will begin preparations Sunday for the annual Thanksgiving dinner at the downtown tavern. This is the seventh year that Darryl Baldwin’s business has hosted the free dinner, which is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. “We start on Sunday peeling potatoes, pies will be made on Monday and the
turkeys will be cooked the night before Thanksgiving,” Baldwin said. “It really smells good in here when the pies and turkeys are cooking.” “Taking It To The Street” organizers Joe and Kathy Summers will gather volunteers from Christian Life Center to help prepare the food.
