Island grown comic plays at ‘Club Clyde’ Brian Moote, a comedian who hails from South Whidbey, will present his late-night comedy act July 5 at 10 p.m. at the Clyde Theatre in Langley.
The Clyde Theatre will be turning itself into Club Clyde for a few late-night shows this summer, starting with an evening with stand-up comedian and former South Whidbey High School basketball star Brian Moote at 10 p.m. Friday, July 5. “It stays light so late in the summer,” said Clyde owner Blake Willeford in a news
release, “that we thought we could extend ‘Whidbey midnight’ from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. or even midnight a few times during the season. Moote, who frequently returns home to the family farm in Clinton, has appeared on the USA Network, FX, MTV, Comedy Central and recently taped a stand-up special for Nickelodeon called

What’s in store for his audience? “I pride myself on having a very conversational style of comedy that utilizes a lot of improvisation, avoids bullying, and is ultimately fun,” he said. “I’m likely to talk a lot about my life currently and growing up on Whidbey.” The hometown boy will be in the Pacific Northwest for several weeks to perform at local comedy clubs and run his first marathon as a way to raise funds for the Northwest Center for Kids, an organization that provides services for specialneeds kids in the Seattle area. “I really wanted to play the
Clyde Theater because it is the first place I ever performed in front of an audience and got them to laugh at something I said. The great part is this time they’ll laugh on purpose, not because I forgot my line in a play – my only line in that play.” The Moote comedy show will open the Choochokam weekend festivities. Moote will stop by local watering holes before his show, drumming up business, so expect to see him around. 27, 1984 in Bellingham. For his entire life, he lived on Whidbey Island except when off working in the Bering Sea. Jacob learned various trades while working at Nichols Brothers Boat Builders. He also worked his way to third engineer while working on various commercial fishing vessels in the Bering Sea. Jacob loved life and the people in it, from the lower 48 to the Bering Sea. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved hiking, swimming, fishing, adventures and getting others motivated. He enjoyed helping others. He just liked being Jake. He will be missed and never forgotten. A viewing will be held at Visser Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 5. Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Sixth Street and Cascade Avenue in Langley, with Pastor Michael Berry officiating. Burial will take place in the Bayview Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
