Featured artists at Sidney Art gallery The Sidney Art Gallery will present the work of Willadene (Billie) Torbenson and Jani Freimann as the featured show for June. The show will run through June 30. Torbenson was recently the judge for the 43rd Helen Norris Open Art Show held in May at the Sidney Art Gallery. She is a native of the Pacific Northwest and it has been her ambition to be an artist since early childhood. Her art is in numerous

Evergreen Bonsai Club meeting set BREMERTON — The Evergreen Bonsai Club will meet Saturday, June 22, at 3:30 p.m., at Elandan Gardens, 3050 State Highway 16 West. Prince speaking at NAACP banquet BREMERTON — The local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Persons (NAACP) will host its Annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday, June 29, at the Kitsap Conference Center. The banquet begins with a 6 p.m. social hour with dinner set to start at 7 p.m. The theme for this years banquet is “We Will Not Be Moved.” The featured speaker will be Edward Prince, executive director of the Washington State Commission on African American Affairs. Calendars available for fundraisers

Printing Services Inc., is creating a 2014 community calendar with photos as a fundraiser for several South Kitsap non-profit organizations including South Kitsap Helpline. Brad Potter, owner of Printing Services Inc., said his company will donate 200 calendars to SK Helpline, which will sale the calendars at $10 each. Potter said he would make 3,000 calendars available to SK Helpline and other non-profit organizations at a wholesales cost of $2 each. For more information, contact Potter at 360-340-5350.

Firefighters earn scholastic, performance awards Three South Kitsap Fire and Rescue volunteer firemen were recognized for their community service and for scholastic performances during the 90th Annual Washington State Fire Fighters’ Association (WSFFA) Conference held June 6-8, in Wenatchee. Jon Andrzejewski was honored as Firefighter of the Year, Eric Torrison was selected Volunteer Support Person of the Year and Stephen Lacheney was named Volunteer EMS Responder of the Year. Applications for these volunteer fire service awards were submitted by department leaders, peers or subordinates.

Creekmore named to state board Larry Creekmore of South Kitsap Fire and Rescue was sworn in to the 2013/2014 Board of Trustees at the recently Annual Fire School and Conference in Wenatchee by the Washington State Fire Fighters’ Association (WSFFA). Founded in 1923, WSFFA is the oldest statewide fire service organization. Its mission is to represent the interests of volunteer firefighters and EMS responders throughout the state of Washington. Membership includes more than 400 fire departments and districts, representing approximately 16,000 volunteers. WSFFA is a non-profit organization under IRS regulation part 501(c)(3).
