Four Delta elementary schools took part in a unique flash mob involving around 2,000 students at a Vancouver Giants game on Jan. 20. The video of the coordinated dance at the Pacific Coliseum has since gone viral. The event, in honour of Anti-Bullying Day, took place in the upper bowl during a game between the Giants and the Everett Silvertips. Delta school board trustee Dale Saip, who is vice-president of business development for the Giants, said he was approached last fall by a principal in the Vancouver school district about having students take part in a flash mob. hundred students take part in the stadium’s concourse, but so many schools had expressed interest that it grew. High school students from the Vancouver district became choreographers, tasked with going out to all the participating schools to teach the moves. Students from English Bluff, Beach Grove and Pebble Hill in South Delta took part as well as students from Gibson Elementary in North Delta. Anti-Bullying Day, also known as Pink Shirt Day, takes place on the last Wednesday of February. This year’s Anti-Bullying Day will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 27. All participants of Anti-Bullying Day are encouraged to wear pink, which symbolizes a stand against bullying.
