Local musicians will again hit the stage Sunday, Dec. 9 for Yuletide Blues, a yearly benefit concert for the Sources food bank which serves White Rock/ South Surrey. The night of live music features performances by Brandon “Yukon Slim” Isaak, Harpdog Brown, David “Boxcar” Gates, Ellie Johnson, Jason Buie, Velvet Bulldozer, RockStar and special guests, at Pacific Inn Hotel’s Rhumba Room bar in South Surrey, starting at 6 p.m. Tickets for the sixth annual event are $15 each, plus a donation of two nonperishable food items. Yuletide Blues offers wonderful support for the Sources food bank, said Jaye Murray, the facility’s operations and services co-ordinator. “It certainly helps with donations, but it’s also about the awareness raised,” Murray said. “A lot of people don’t
know there’s a food bank in the South Surrey/White Rock area, which is amazing because it’s been around for nearly 30 years.” Last year, the Sources food bank provided support to 1,696 community members, a third of which were children, Murray said. Food bank staff and volunteers will be at Yuletide Blues to collect the cash donations and food, for distribution to people during the holidays. White Rock Blues Society is the host of the benefit concert, at 1160 King George Blvd. For more details, call 604542-6515. Those who can’t make it to the event can still support the Sources food bank by dropping off donations at its warehouse, at #5-15515 24th Ave. The facility is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; also, the food bank will be open Saturdays in December from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For details, visit sourcesbc.ca.
