FARNSWORTH - Tom Dec 17, 1943 - Jan 18, 2013
Tom passed away suddenly at Maple Ridge Hospital on January 18, 2013. With deep sadness we mourn our loss of a husband, father and grandpa, (also son brother, cousin and uncle). After retiring from CN Rail Tom devoted a lot of his time to his grandchildren and always kept in touch with all his friends at the CNR. He loved to travel with family and friends and each holiday became an adventure. Memories of those special times will forever be in our hearts, there was seldom a dull moment! He loved his grandchildren Taylor and Gage, Jessie and Dylan and created some wonderful memories with them. He would always say “I never want to grow up, I always want to be a kid”. He was very committed to the Kiwanis Club of Golden Ears and served as president for quite a few years. Tom leaves behind his wife, Wendy of 48 years, daughters Cindy (Ken) and Stacey (Dean) and many family and friends. We will all remember his great sense of humor, caring nature and special personality. “JUST HOLD MY HAND AND WE’RE ALMOST THERE.” In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favourite charity or to Kiwanis Club of Golden Ears. A Celebration of Life will be held at Meadow Highlands Co-op Club House 11892 Ponderosa Blvd, off Hamond Road in Pitt Meadows on February 9th, 2013 from 1-4pm (drop in.)
CORDONI, Ricardo Marx Apr 25, 1947 - Jan 30, 2013 Rick, in his 65th year, youngest of Doris and Tony, passed away the morning of January 30th with loved ones at his side... Gone too soon from cancer. His family saw him through his last week with assistance at Ridge Meadows Hospital and his final hours in McKenney Creek Hospice. Rick lived an active, healthy life with many hobbies and interests. Born in Maple Ridge he graduated from Maple Ridge Secondary and married Leah (nee Pearsall now wife to Ed Perrett), having their first son Che Ricardo shortly after in 1968. Rick enrolled in psychiatry school graduating to work as a psych nurse at Riverview Hospital. He loved working with the patients and was an active part of their lives. Rick was an extremely caring person and nursing was more than prescribing meds, he spent hours working with them one-on-one to get them back out into the community. He had a light heart and related well using his intellect along with his compassion and sense of humour. His patients often kept in touch long after they had got back on their feet and left the hospital. Rick and Leah had another son Marcus Anthony Charles in 1970 and family time was spent boating, camping, on road trips to see the grandparents, and in the outdoors. Rick loved his boys and spent a lot of time teaching them about mechanics, art, history and carpentry. Che picked up on the mechanics and was working on boat engines at 8 years old. Marcus had a natural affinity for the arts and they spent time together drawing cars and portraits. In 1976 another child was born, this time a daughter Angela. When Rick and Leah separated he took on a strong role as a single dad, having the boys at home and never missing a weekend with Angie. Most weekends in the summer were spent on the boat with the kids heading up to the Pitt Lake to camp or dive; in the winter the kitchen table was loaded with papers and homework. He was a huge part of their education offering his advice, opinions, and time. Rick was a political thinker and environmentalist. He often took Angie to weekend festivals in support of nature and conservation and spent his life petitioning the city to ensure appropriate development and accountability to all living things. He was a passionate supporter of the NDP and was a left-thinker, supporting peace initiatives, jobs, public health care and education. His favourite conversations were debates about politics and current events. He spent many days involved in peace rallies and always fought for what he believed to be right for humanity and social justice. Rick was an avid reader; newspapers, books and periodicals; anything on current and world affairs. He often submitted his views to the editorial in the newspapers and spent time on literature and writing. He was an amazing dancer to the end. Rick spent his last few years with Sharon Shinkaruk enjoying his retirement with her. The two of them could always be found at Starbucks in the mornings enjoying a crossword, heading out for drives in his classic old sports cars that he loved fixing up, or playing a game or 2 of crib. Rick is survived by sons, Che and Marcus, his daughter Angie, his partner Sharon, his brother Monte (Mary), his nephews Jason (Deanna with children Rebecca and Ryan) and Lewis (with children Halen and Carissa) uncles, Elmer [Bunk], Dante [Dint] (Margaret), Alfie (Vi) and aunts, Doris [Dobie] (Jud), Josephine [Joey]. Celebration of Life will be held at Hammond Community Centre, 20601 Westfield Ave, Maple Ridge, Sunday, February 10, 2 to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to a favourite charity or society. Forever in our hearts. He leaves this world a better place.
