is known as Dining Out For Life, and it’s an event where participating restaurants – include a few locals – contribute a quarter of their food sales to people in the region living with HIV/AIDS. This year, we have two local restauranteurs taking part, that’s Bob Long and his Bob’s Bar ‘n‘ Grill in Aldergrove, as well as Luigi Guidolin and his Mozart Bakery Cafe in Walnut Grove. These local restaurants join about 200 other in the region, from Whistler to Chilliwack, that are anxious to help out two worthy organizations called A Loving Spoonful and Friends For Life. “Dining Out For Life is a much anticipated annual event for the staff at Bob’s Bar ‘N Grill,” Long said. “And this year we are pleased to be participating in Dining Out For Life’s new initiative, the Vancity 20-per-cent-off Tuesdays Savings Card, which offers a 20-per-cent savings on food purchased every Tuesday at our restaurant for the rest of the year. It is just a small token of appreciation for guests who support people living with HIV/AIDS when they dine out here on event night, Thursday March 7.” More information about the annual dining initiative is available at DiningOutForLife.ca.

Speaking of restaurants, there’s a new one – on the outskirts of the City – that readers might be anxious to hear about. Original Joe’s (better known as OJ’s) celebrated the opening of its 14th B.C. location – at 208th and Fraser Highway – with a party last Sunday. “I’ve been a part of the Original Joe’s family for a couple of years and I am grateful for this new opportunity in Langley,” said Sherri Porth, a managing partner of Langley and formally general manager in Chilliwack. “Langley is known for its warm sense of community, and I am excited to share the Original Joe’s experience with our new friends and neighbours,” she said. As part of the corporate philosophy to be active in the community, OJs donates 50 cents from each pint of a selected brand of beer to a local charity, as part of its Community Pint Program. The first charity for the local team will be Langley Food Bank.
