Uncanny The local charity Kids Can Help raised $841.40 at a coin drive at Thunderbird Shopping Centre recently, bringing the group’s total since June to $2,307.99. The goal this year is $20,000. They raised about $15,300 last year. Kids Can Help has donated to cancer charities as well as the BC Children’s Hospital. Members – all kids – get together and plan fundraising events such as bottle drives, a car wash, a talent show, and garage sales. Young people interested in joining or finding out more can contact Sean Thomas at kidscanhelpkids@gmail.com. The group meets Sept. 22 at the W.C. Blair Recreation Centre at 2:50 p.m.

Air cadets hosting open house The 746 Lightning Hawk Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron is hosting a welcoming party at Hangar 5 Sept. 22. The squadron, including close to 60 air cadets between the ages of 12 and 18, seven Canadian Forces officers, and a parent sponsoring committee, offer a training program centered around aviation, leadership, survival training, range, drill, and citizenship. To help celebrate its new home, and to

introduce the public to its program, 746 Lightning Hawk is hosting an open house this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held at the Lightning Hawk headquarters, Hangar 5 of Langley Regional Airport, 5301 216th St. Visitors can meet cadets, officers and parents, and sign up to join. A Care Card and birth certificate are required to enroll. New recruits must be at least 12 years old to join.
