Unpatented mmmg claims on national forest land cannot be used for recreation residences, L.O, Barrell:, Snoqualmie National Forest Supervisor, cautioned today. b Each year people purchase unpatented mining .Claims with the intent of establishing a summer home or hunting cabin. But the Multiple Use Mining Act specifically prohibits such use. Public Law 167, the Multiple !Jse Mining Act, was passed July 23, !955. It states, in part, that a mining claim '' shall not be used, prior to issuance of patent therefor, for any purpose other than prospcctirlg, mining or processing operations and uses reasonably incident thereto." 11 TI1is not only applies to claims located .after July 23, !955, 11 said Barrett, "but also to all older claims on which verified statements were not filed during the ensuing advertising periods that followed passage of the act. 11 Filing on a mining claim gives the claimant die right to 'minerals located tl1ereon. In order for die claim to be valid the claimant must show that he : has locatGd minerals of sufficient quantity and value that a prudent man would be justified in expending his time and mon-

Claimants are also advised that since the surface re sources remain under Government control until patent is issued, it is not permissible to fence 'or post "No Trespassing" 1 signs on mining claims. . With a 38-20 halftime deficit to overcome, the Orting Cardinals fell prey to the Elma Eagles 72-58 last Friday night. Not enough free throws and inability to cash in when they did get them cost the Eards the did get them cost me Cards the win. Orting actually potted more field goals than did Elma, but the Eagles converted 26 of 33 free shots, while the Cards could only make good an 8 of 23. Casey Carrigan topped the scorers for the Cards, dumping in 21 points. He was assisted in the Cardinal cause by Steve Rea who tallied 13.

Cr1111isell'S Eatonville' s Cruisers fell way behind the Raymond Seagulls early in last week's game and the defending State Class A Champs went on to post an easy 69-44 victory. The Gulls tallied 22 points in tl1e second period while Eatonville could manage only 8, and that was the decidin1' factor in me ballgame. john Bloom was the only Cruiser to hit double figures, as he tallied 11. The setback was the fifth in seven starts for the Eatonville quint, and their fonrth in leo.gue contests.
