HAUGE ADM I N ISTRATION BUILDING - 1960 ( R ittergrup-2010) DESCRIPTION The H a uge Ad m i n istration b u i l d i ng, b u i lt in 1960, is a two story U-sh a p e b u i l d i n g constructed of b rick, steel, and reinfo rced concrete. The b u i ld i ng was the first modern st ructu re located adjacent to t h e traditional c e n t e r cou rt of the o rigi n a l c a m pus. The a d m i n istration b u i l d i n g was d esigned by the sa m e a rc h itects, Lea, Pearson a n d R i c h a rds, who designed Xavier, Eastvol'd a n d Ra msta d , a l l i n the tra d itiona l c o l l ege gothic style. The restra i n e d M od e r n i sm o f the b u i l d i n g reflects t h e infl u e n ce o f corporate c u lt u re that pred o m i n ated i n m a n y a spects of American l ife d u ri n g t h e early 1960's. H a uge H a l l h a s reta i ned m u c h of its exterior i ntegrity a n d is an excel lent exa m p l e of ea rly mod ern ca m p u s style in the Pacific NW. This p a rticu l a r b u i l d i n g i s o n e o f t h e few o n t h e P L U c a m p u s that meet N ational Register criteria d u e to its sign ifica nce and i n tegrity.

H a u ge, who had served as dean, registrar, academic vice p reside nt, professor a nd a rc h ivist from 1920 to 1970. The P h i l i p E.
