BLUES: BLUES BLOWOUT Mark Hummel and The Blues Survivors October 2, 7:30 p.m. Price: $12-$28 Harmonica-led blues bands draw their inspiration from the Chicago school of blues, but by adding elements of jump blues and rock ‘n’ roll into the mix have come up with an exciting new style of West Coast blues. In Oakland, northern capital of California blues, harmonica player and vocalist Mark Hummel has been a major force in shaping this new musical genre as leader of The Blues Survivors. Mark Hummel is a road warrior, a true Blues Survivor. Along the way, he has crafted his own trademark harmonica sound, a subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack combined with a strong sense of swing. Since 1991, he has produced the Blues Harmonica BlowoutTM series. These much-heralded shows continue to draw sellout crowds wherever they appear and their list of band members is a Who’s Who of Blues harp history: James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite, Magic Dick, Jerry Portnoy, Rick Estrin, Lee Oskar, Curtis Salgado, Billy Boy Arnold, Johnny Dyer, Watermelon Slim, and James Harman. Be part of this incredible musical experience. Come to the Firehouse on October Unique Treasures! 2nd and get your blues on! Colorful handmade lacquer jewelry boxes.
