www.facebook.com/MattiaAmfOnlusFagnoni www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=103259216418117 Exhibition to support Sandhoff and Tay-Sachs Syndrome research. Ex Asilo Filangieri, Naples April 26 > May 6, 2011 Exhibition launched by: Amfo - Ntsad - Universal Forum of Cultures Foundation and the City of Naples - Platform58 Tuesday, April 26, at 18:00, the exhibition “Expo For Mattia” opens at Palazzo Filangieri in Naples; the initiative arises from the need to sensitize public awareness of a very rare disease, Sandhoff's Syndrome, that has affected Mattia a three-year-old child. Sandhoff's Syndrome is a rare, degenerative genetic disease that leads inexorably to death. Mattia’ s parents, Simona and Francesco, have created “ Mattia Fagnoni Association” to raise funds for helping researches about a disease still too unknown. Mattia is the only suffering child in Italy and this makes the situation even more difficult. Since last year, Mattia Fagnoni Association began to collect works of art to organize a charity auction, whose profits will be given to raise funds to encourage research. The response has been incredible: over 1000 works of art donated by over 800 artists from around the world, work will be auctioned at the opening of the exhibition.

About: Artist group Peers Venner consists of eleven artists associated with the community Inderøy, Norway: Randi Antonsen, Jarle Anzjøn, Lise Brissach, Marcus Edvardsen, Morten Gjul, Frances Jayaseela, Inger Marie Lillesand, Reidulv Lyngstad, Kari Mæle Løge, Anne Kathrine Oxaal and Robert Øfsti. We have been collaborating in a summer exhibition at Straumen since 2001. Every year an artist associated with Inderøy is invited as a guest exhibitor at the summer exhibition. We have also published two calendars in which the proceeds are donated to charity. Time project: The art group have worked and are still working with a common project on “TIME”. Through philosophical statements in various expressions we are investigating the significance and contents of the theme TIME. We have realized some thoughts. As this large sign placed in a field. The sign reads: “Here, time is building” The sign was soon removed by the municipality and located in a basement. We retrieved the sign, one late night, andplaced it on the beach so the tide could rise above it.

The Bluetooth Project is parcularly relevant to the current P58 theme of EYES in that it consists of collecng personal data by secreve surveillance which also complements the current zeitgeist for exposure. The Arst I have recently been involved in a project whereby I have extracted informaon and data from Bluetooth technology and presented it as art in many guises, one of which is nonsense verse. Turning my art into poetry involved collaborang with a writer and together we have taken a sneaky look at the secreve cyber communicaon that is going on around us. Inially this began as finding a way of creavely presenng the personal and private ID names that individuals give to their Bluetooth technology in order to receive informaon in a covert manner. These personal idenes can be recognised by another Bluetooth user up to a distance of around twenty feet meaning that exchanges and meengs can be arranged without detecon in the busiest of places, a fact that I find extremely interesng and excing. Turning away from the concealed communicaon of the technology I then decided to exploit the personal area networks of Bluetooth in a more open way which involved sending mass messages to people in public stores and shops. The messages we sent were quite tame but demonstrate how the technology could be used in a much more polical and subversive way. From there the possibilies became endless which is why the Bluetooth project is sll unresolved but the amount of work already generated is immense and currently available in several stand alone pieces. At the moment I am working to find a way of projecng live informaon, gathered from surrounding crowds of Bluetooth users, into an immediate area such as a train staon or shopping centre. This would truly demonstrate that we are being watched and exposed by our ‘Big Brother’ society in a way many people will not be aware of; and this is just the p of the iceberg. Overall the project sets out to interpret data in an innovave and arsc way that will hopefully engage people in subjects they would not normally pay aenon to.

The Writer Andrea and I have worked together on and off for several years now but our main collaboraon has been the nonsense poems which were created using Bluetooth identy names. Andrea had collected thousands of names and wanted to present them in a way that would in turn create something else. Bouncing ideas around together we somehow arrived at the famous Lewis Carroll poem, The Jabberwocky, probably the result of a discussion about the topsy turvy Alice in Wonderland world where nothing is what it seems. This is of course true of the clandesne communicaon that is carried on around us by Bluetooth users and their secreve idenes; an inverted world of dreamscapes and possibilies given existence simply by the choice of a name. Who, or what, is the person secretly known as Jew Killer trying to aract or make contact with? Similarly is Aching Hole giving out a message in the hope that someone will relieve them of their afflicon? Presented with the ‘names’ I played around with them, inserng the minimum of conjuncons and matching rhythm and tone to create verse which, although nonsensical, emied a certain ‘mood’ or ‘meaning’ when read aloud. Nonsense poems have taken many forms and although mostly regarded as verse for children the poems created by Andrea and myself are the inverse of that as many have a sexual or violent undertone which is hopefully reflected in the measure and cadence of each poem. What must not be forgotten is the fact that individuals have named themselves with these descripve tles, feeling safe in the knowledge that they are a secret, known only to themselves or others who may share their tastes. For example someone calling themselves Adolf Hitler could not be surprised if he is contacted by other fascists - the previously menoned Jew Killer perhaps? That is all part of this secreve, parallel communicaon but our project exposes the fact that everything is eventually exposed is in our increasingly Orwellian dystopian world.

An Artist is not an Island Why Helping Others’ Careers is a Part of Your Own Success by Lenore Cohen www.lenorecohen.com www.facebook.com/Lenmiz www.twitter.com/thatartistgirl We all know that collaborang with fellow arsts is important for the development of new ideas. How many arsts’ collecves spurred new movements or iconic shows that people sll talk about today? Just look at the Impressionists. Rejected by the tradional salons, they were able to sell and exhibit their work only because they worked as a group to put together shows and promote themselves as a movement. They started a revoluon in the art world, the likes of which had never been seen before, and ushered in a new era of modern art. An arst can’t be an island. If they want to be successful, that is. Today’s art market is highly saturated and fiercely compeve, it’s true. The advice I dispense here, then, may therefore be counterintuive, but I can’t give enough real life examples for why it’s actually beneficial to pass some of your opportunies on to other arsts. It’s easy to see why arsts working within the same style should collaborate on projects and shows. But what about everyone else? Let me state for the record here that, yes, I’ve been wary before of sharing opportunies for work with other arsts. However, my experience has shown me and again that, beyond the immediate sasfacon of grabbing the sale of the moment, helping other arsts has been the sole most effecve way for me to get ahead in my own career for the long term. Aer all, every arst has such a unique creave vision that there really isn’t much of a compeon for clients. What appeals to one buyer styliscally may repel another; therefore you should be confident in your own work’s ability to find the right owner.

Consider this recent story. I was granted the opportunity to exhibit my work in a Cafe in Brooklyn as the first in a series of rotang arsts. The new owner was excited to start displaying art on the Cafe walls, and I was excited to parcipate, if only for a lile while. The cafe soon came under new ownership and, with my art already hung up, I was offered the opportunity to leave my work on permanent view instead. I chose to connue the “Arst of the Month” idea and work as the curator, thus giving other arsts the chance to get the exposure that I know we all look for. Not only has this given me the opportunity to meet new arsts, but within one week, an arst that I had chosen for the rotaon called and offered informaon about an upcoming decorator’s forum that was seeking exhibitors for their fair. Spots were almost taken up, and I was able to snag one just because this other arst had let me know about it before it was too late.

Another me, I was approached by a client to create a mural on her new living room wall. While I do have experience in mural painng, I felt that the job would be beer suited to another arst I know and I passed it on to her. Soon aer, this other arst referred me to a new decorator who ended up to be one of my best business contacts to date. Through her, I sold three works of fine art, was commissioned to paint a glass wall, and a new big project is just around the corner. In the summer of 2010, I curated an enre art show in Asbury. I did this to help out the organizers of the event at no charge, even though it took considerable amounts of me and effort on my part from months beforehand. I didn’t charge the arsts any fees, and even designed their Arst Statements and Titles of work to match the show. A lile while aerward, one of the parcipang arsts called with yet another opportunity to showcase work for free at an interior design event that I hadn’t previously heard of and at which I met several other decorators through whom I’ve been able to sell work. I could go on forever with more stories like this, the point being, painng together is not the only form of collaboraon. Arsts should always keep in mind that to further others is to further yourself-- the more advice you dispense, the more you become indispensable. The more you help others, the more people you have on your side, roong for you to succeed. Offering opportunies or even your arsc input on a project for free can go a long way in helping to establish you as a go-to contact for whatever you’re best at. This is true in any field and especially in the arts, where more than half the job lies not just in creavity, but promong yourself. Do someone a favor; you never know when they’ll be able to pay it back.

portunity to meet new arsts, but within one week, an arst that I had chosen for the rotaon called and o?ered informaon about an upcoming decorator’s forum that was seeking exhibitors for their fair. Spots were almost taken up, and I was able to snag one just because this other arst had let me know about it before it was too late. Art Uber Alles : Connued Concerning other arsc acts, the show promotes concerts, video art, theatre, painng and photo exhibions. Endorsing the idea of internaonal cultural exchange, the show also parcipates acvely in concerts‘s organizaon. In 2008, the Juno Reactor’s concert, at the Foundaon of the Hellenic World, in Athens, was aended by 4500 people. Moreover, for the last four years Art Uber Alles coorganizes the Ireon Rock fesval with parcipants such as The Stranglers, Aswad, VEGASTAR, Cyanna, Locomondo, MARSHEAUX, MIKRO, MATISSE, PALYRRIA. Bands and arsts have a chance to send their demos, which will be evaluated by collaborators of the show. Based upon that evaluaon, the arst’s work will be broadcast. Live presentaons may also take place on scenes like UNDERWORLD, GAGARIN, AN CLUB, MYLOS, KYTTARO, RODEO, TERRA VIBE and many more. Furthermore, a presentaon of the live or studio work of bands is possible. Art Uber Alles remains one of the sponsors of many events and organizaons that promote culture, like the European Music Fesval, the Juno Reactor live in Athens, the School Wave, the Synch Fesval, The Zeitgeist Movement, Αthens video art fesval, Mama Africa, THERAPY?, Bale of the band, Fesval of Music Creavity and Instruments, the Air guitar Fesval, the Elfentanz Fesval, Barcelona in Athens, Rock Wave, Earth Dance Fesval, The Silk Road, Nomad Fesval, Fields of the Nephilim, 2 Real Rock Fest and many more. In addion to singers and musicians, the show is also host to technicians as sound engineers, producers, stage designers, animates, light engineers, in other words to the technical part which supports such producons. It also provides useful informaon about these professions, keeping in mind the number of people that study these areas of experses in various colleges.

Many other projects are spreading during the Art Uber Alles show like “Cofix Wiggler”, “Do It Yourself” and “Blow Up”. “Cofix Wiggler” is a short program that offers fresh ideas about comic and animaon arts. Its intenon is to introduce the world of comics and animaon to the TV public with the enthusiasm of an arst and the informaon that is absent from these arts. It includes two parts. The first part includes short seminars that help everyone to start creang their own comic or animaon. The second part has interviews of famous and established Greek and internaonal arsts and presentaons of acts, contests, fesvals and publicaons. “Do It Yourself”, contains a column of musical engineering in collaboraon with SAE Internaonal (School of Audio/Sound Engineering, Electronic Music Producon Djing). As for “Blow Up”, as in Michelangelo Antonioni’s film, it reveals, an aesthecally avant-garde program, with connuous renewal, so as to offer a weekly TV “roof” to cinema, theatre, fine arts, directors, actors, painters, musicians, video arsts, street arsts etc. Short tributes give the opportunity to discover different cultural and arsc groups of special interest. The presentaon of this program is hosted by Vasiliki Kappa under the direcon of Xristos Karakasis. Some interesting personalies who have appeared in this program are Dimitris Athanis (Director), Kostas Xaralas (writer), Vassilis Mazomenos (Director), Marianna Kirakaki (writer), Andreas Mitsou (writer), Giorgos Moraris(Poète), Manthos Santorineos (Intermedia arst/researcher and professor of Fine Arts of Athens/Director of the Center for Digital Culture FOURNOS).

At present, you can watch the show’s episodes in sites like www.koyinta.gr, www.filmmaker.gr, dailymoon.com/ARTUBRALLES and www.myspace.com/artuberalles. Don’t forget that Art Uber Alles was the latest project of Mysterious Art, founded on October 2005 by Theo Manetas, George Dimitsanos and Kika Giannou. Mysterious Art is specialized in Graphic Design, Video Clips and TV Producons. It also has fully operaonal in-house green box which can be used for either film or sll photography purposes. The whole team remains faithful and always willing to sasfy the producon’s demands. We have to thank George Dimitsanos who is an important part of Art Uber Alles as well as all our colaborators; Elena Petrou in traslaon, Fabrizio Lazakis for the metal band’s interviews, Xristos Karakasis for « Blow Up », Marvalous Marcus for his NYC show « Marvalous & Friends » and contacts, Viki Kefalea for french and internaonal scene. A last and big thanks to Mark for his kindness and all of you for your support. Viki Kefalea

Upfest - The Urban Paint Festival was conceived by some crazy art lovers back in the summer of 2008. Initially meant to be a small paint jam with a handful of artists, it quickly became a group of 50 like-minded folks wanting to show their skills off to whoever turned up for chilly day in October 2008. Upfest is now made up of four partners two of which are full time and about 100 volunteers whom without the festival could not take place. Upfest continues to work closely with Nacoa (National Association for Children of Alcoholics) a local charity with national coverage. Nacoa amongst other activity operate a free confidential helpline for children effected by alcoholism within the family, manned by volunteers the work they undertake is ultra vital in today's world. We are pleased to say that the festival has helped to raise over ÂŁ15,000 for the charity over the past three years and more importantly raising crucial awareness of such a taboo subject. Nacoa - www.nacoa.org.uk - Helpline No. 0800 358 3456

The Urban Paint Festival Upfest would like to thank Mark and everyone at P58 for the opportunity to show the history of Upfest (so far) and take a look at this years festival taking place on the 4th and 5th of June here in sunny south Bristol.

Our first festival, well we called it a festival but was really just a medium sized paint jam. After being inspired by Banksy's Cans festival in London, Supercans in Southampton and possibly a few too many goblin ciders the two founding partners in Upfest had a crazy idea to bring 'Live' street art back to it's home and have a little shindig in Bristol. After a bit of blagging (okay quite a lot) the good people at the Tobacco Factory gave us the venue... And the rest is history as they. Upfest'08 saw the likes of local legends, Cheo, Cheba, Lokey, Nik Ill and Inkie take out the main wall at the festival, from further afield we had K74 (USA), Goin (FR) make the trip for their first year and SNUB, Dank, Grafter, Ben Slow and Snik blindly travelling from across the UK to our wee paint jam. Massive respect to all artists that made the trip. So the festival finished, no major hick ups and god damn it the idea worked and the festival was truly born.

Following the great success of Upfest'08, the partners got together www. to decide on, if and how the festival waswww.facebook.com to become an annual event, there really was only one answer.... Make it BIGwww.twitter.com and make it even better.... So the first crucial decision was made to make one of the partners full time, secondly the festival was moved to June for a longer day of painting and possibly even some sunshine, lastly we decided to see just how many artists would want to make the trip. Well the answer to that last part was 150! So the paint jam had grown up and become a mini festival, it was definitely going to be big all that remained was to make it great. This seems the perfect opportunity to bring in the music, the partners were adamant that the festival was all about the art, but quickly we realised that what's a festival without wicked tunes. Bring on the music guys, a mix of 16 DJ's and bands were put together including Dave Cridge, Chris Read, Habana Flex, Funk from the Trunk and Woodnote (sorry, if I named everyone the list would have gone on a bit) add to this Addy P and group of Beatboxers and the tunes were sorted. So the festival took place, seven venues, 150 artists and 12 hrs of 'Live' uninterrupted art! Well we say uninterrupted, you know the saying every cloud has a silver lining, well it rained, okay only for the first couple of hours, however without that rain we would never have got inside North Street Garage and with agreement from the owner we blasted those walls, it was bloody brilliant! The festival was a massive success and above all we met so many sound people, vibe was ace painting awesome, bring on Upfest'10!

Upfest partner Stephen Hayles explains why this has become such an integral part of the UK graffiti scene: “Bristol is established as the home of graffiti in the UK; the whole country and now even the world has attributed this to the City. We are proud to be a part of this movement and will continue to provide a platform for brand new artists to break onto the UK urban art scene. The fact that it’s free just makes it even more exciting.” Upfest takes place around the Tobacco Factory on Raleigh Road, Southville, Bristol on Saturday June
