GREAT BRITAIN | Military - World War I Period 297P * C 1916 (Jan 29) stampless Bulgarian poor quality postal card inbound to Harrow-on-the-Hill with very “busy” cyrillic handstamp of 1st Military Field Hospital, from an English nurse. Social content, creased, peripheral faults. Scarce. 298P * B 1917 aged registered envelope inscribed “On Active Service” with GB KGV 2d orange Die I and registration label tied ‘ARMY POST OFFICE/A/18MY17/SZ 15’ alongside censor’s violet triangle handstamp and signature same date. To Alexandria, several backstamps include bilinguals and in particular a neat lightly struck skeleton ‘LAK TPO/X/18MY17/DAY MAIL’ (Deir el Belah-Kantara). Very scarce item (opened out for display). A - use of OAS coloured PPC of ‘A Happy Christmas from the Balkans’ (partisan on his donkey) with imprint ‘SURVEY COY 299P *F RE BSF NO364’ (= Royal Engineers, British Salonika Force) to Tasmania with British ‘ARMY POST OFFICE/B/4DE/17/S.X. 13’ cds used at Eurendzik in Macedonia, minor corner bends. Rare. D 1918 badly damaged envelope of the ‘SERBIAN RELIEF FUND’ franked KGV 2d orange Die I with this and the scarce No. 300P * 88 registration label tied by ‘FIELD POST OFFICE/A/1P/18/G.X’ (Salonica Greek Orphange), the stamp also cancelled by censor octagonal handstamp. Backstamps include red London registered hooded circle. B 1919 (Aug 3) PPC Fiume-England inscribed “O.A.S.” with ‘L 14’ Army PO cds and two censor shield handstamps (Nos 4 301P * and 190). Card depicts Fiume Nautical School which was, at the time, Battallion HQ of the 8th Yorks & Lancs, sender a Royal Engineers sapper. Removable pencil notation noting ‘L 14’ Fiume use Jul to Oct 1919, light soiling. Mail from forces in Fiume is very rare, even more so as a doubly censored item. Highly desirable. GREAT BRITAIN | Postmarks 302P S B London Head Office: clear nearly complete almost vertical strike of Numeral 8 in Maltese Cross on 2d blue [CB] from Plate 3, very blue paper with distinct ivory head SG #14cf cat £700+, more or less shaved margins. GREAT BRITAIN | Scotland | Postal History 303P * A/A- 1784-1805 Namestamps mounted on cardboard for display; [1] 1805 Banff to Elgin, used 1800-08; [2] 1805 Kilmarnock to Edinburgh, namestamp in red, used 1801-09; [3] 1784 Elgin to Huntly, used 1779-89 [Rated D by Mackay]; [4] 1787 Elgin to Portsoy, used 1779-89 [Rated D by Mackay] GREECE 304P * A B2 1900 Surcharges 1d on 40l bistre/blue P11½ SG #146, Cat £150. Hinge remains, very fresh. 305P */W B - on 1896 Olympics issues with 5l on 1d blue * SG #148 cat £22 (blunted NE corner), plus without gum the scarce 1d on 5d green SG #151 appears unused (some aging) and 2d on 10d brown SG #152. The two high values cat £425 as *, £345 as used. (3) 306P * A- B1 - 25l in red on 40l pale violet, with 50l surcharge in black in addition SG #149a, Cat £550. Very difficult stamp just o/c low right, looks alright to us. GREECE | Postal History B 1847 (Sep 22) entire from Syra with ornate ‘ΣΥΡΑ/22/ΣΕΗΤΕ./1847’ cds alongside boxed Δ11’, backstamp in bright red 307P * equally ornate ‘Trieste./9 OCT./1847’ arr. Some damage around seal, otherwise very good condition for 162-year old. 308P * A 1874 Mourning Letter Piraeus to Milano sent stampless with ‘Piraeus/27/FEB/74’ plus boxed ‘PIROSCAFI/POSTAL/ AUSTRIACI’, ‘PD’ strike which confirmed the ship charges had been paid, but no stamps. Manuscript ‘Via Brindisi’, but went via Corfu, as usual, and in Corfu had 3 Greek stamps affixed, for a magnificent 3-colour franking, used as postage dues, with Corfu transit, Milano arrival and ‘38’ censor. Complete with original message in Greek, makes for a very interesting cover. GREECE | Flight Covers - Commercial A 1936 commercial airmail covers from same correspondent in Athens to Melbourne at 33d and 83d rates, frankings 309P *F including 1933 Air 25d (2) and scarce 50d. (2) GREENLAND 310P */V A/A- 1905 Parcel Post Perf 12 [1] 1ö olive, MUH, but gum slightly disturbed and small crease, SG #P1, Cat £325; [2] 1915 20ö red re-perforated P11½ with savings bank cancel. HONG KONG | Collections and Accumulations 311P U A/A- QV Forgeries selection of 8 forgeries, 2c to 96c plus 28c on 30c. HONG KONG 312P F A/A- 51862-63 No Wmk 12c, 18c & 24c, SG #3-5, Cat £225, 24c a little soiled at top. 313P V A- B1 1862-63 No Wmk 18c lilac, SG #4, Cat £55, light crease in TLC, superb used. 314P * A B2 - 18c lilac, SG #4, Cat £650, re-gummed, lovely appearance. 315P F A B2 - 18c lilac & 24c green, SG #4-5, Cat £165. (2) 316P * A C2 - 96c brownish grey, SG #7, Cat £3,750, re-gummed, couple of short perfs but a rare stamp with superb colour. 317P F A C2 - 96c brownish grey, SG #7, Cat £450, superb used. 318P * A B1 1863-71 Wmk Crown/CC 2c pale yellowish brown, SG #8b, Cat £160. 319P F A- B1 1863-71 18c Lilac SG #13, Cat £300, reperfed at right. 320P * A- A2 1863-71 Wmk Crown/CC 30c mauve wing margin at right, SG #16, Cat £275, rounded BLC and expertising handstamp on gum shows though slightly. 321P F B 1863-71 96c Olive-Bistre error of colour, SG #19, Cat £750, rounded corner. 322P W B 1876 Surcharges 16c on 18c lilac, MNG, SG #20, Cat £2,250 as mint, straight edge at top, thinned TRC, fresh colour. 323P F A - 16c on 18c lilac left wing margin, SG #20, with unplated cracked ‘1’ in ‘16’ (Yang rates this variety at 2¼ times normal). Nice item. 324P * A B1 1888 New Colours and Values 5c blue, SG #29, Cat £650, fresh MLH. 325P W A- B1 - 10c mauve, SG #30, Cat £750, no gum, mild thin, scarce.
