New Leaf ONLINE TUTORING BEGINS AT EDINBORO Provided by a company called Smarthinking, Edinboro University students now have access to free online tutoring 24 hours per day, seven days per week—a convenience that is particularly helpful for the adult student population.

Ninety percent of Smarthinking’s tutors hold advanced degrees in their field and average over nine years of teaching or tutoring experience.

Smarthinking offers four types of tutoring for students’ convenience.

The first type is “drop-in tutoring.” This type of tutoring is an on-demand 24/7 service where students can talk to tutors “live” and in “real time.” The second is “scheduled tutoring” which enables students to schedule a time when they would like to be tutored, and even choose the tutor they prefer. “Offline questions” is a third type of tutoring that allows students to submit questions and receive answers, but not in a live format option like the drop-in tutoring. The final type is the “writing center.” This option allows students to send their essays, paragraphs or papers to a tutor who will review it and provide feedback within 48 hours.

To access the new online tutoring program, log on to the myEdinboro portal, then click on the D2L icon on the LaunchPad. Once in D2L, click on the Smarthinking Online Tutoring icon. There is a tutorial of how to use the new program in the step-by-step Smarthinking student handbook, which can be found under the academic resources link.

Edinboro University is continuing to provide on-campus tutoring for those who prefer face-to-face assistance. A list of on-campus tutoring hours for all departments can be found on the Academic Success Center website (www.edinboro.edu, keyword “tutoring”).

TECHNOLOGY TRAINING FROM HOME! In recent years, logging in to different EU accounts (such as email and SCOTS) has been easier through the advent of the myEdinboro portal.

Prior to the portal, each account had separate usernames and passwords, and could be quite confusing.

Still, using new technology systems can be a bit of a learning curve. A new webpage can help you with this via video tutorials. This page can show you how to register for classes, run a degree evaluation, and navigate D2L with plans to add more to the page soon.

To access the new webpage, go to adult.edinboro.edu and click on the technology video tutorials link under “What’s New.” For technology phone support, call Edinboro’s technology and communications help desk at 814-7322111. If you need assistance with D2L, the 24/7 technical support line is 1-877-325-7778.

INVOLVE YOUR FAMILY ON CAMPUS WITH A MOVIE NIGHT Most adult students don’t get involved in on-campus activities because they don’t have time, think activities are just for traditional-aged students, or prefer activities that include their family.

A great way to get involved and include the family is through an on-campus movie night! Edinboro University has a movie theater on campus called the Scot Cinema.

All movies are free for students when you show your student ID card. Want to bring a guest, spouse and/or your children? Admission is only $1.00 for nonstudents and popcorn is only $.25!

Movies on campus are coordinated through the University Programming Board (UPB). The UPB is the central coordinating and planning group for activities on campus. UPB is a student-run, student-funded organization that provides quality programs and services, which enhance the educational, cultural, social, and recreational aspects of the university.
