ood afternoon and welcome to Forest Town Arena, home of AFC Mansfield. Today’s opponents, Handsworth Parramore defeated us last week 2-1,hopefully we will even the score today but it will be a tough game. Last week we were undone in the 1st half and went in 2-0 down through Alex Rippon and Aaron Moxam. For the first goal Danny Buttle put in a superb cross but we had allowed Rippon to wander into the box unmarked and good players don’t miss from 12 yards. The 2nd goal came after some sustained pressure where several attempts on goal had been blocked. Unfortunately Captain Danny Patterson had the chance to clear the danger in the box but completely missed the ball. It fell kindly to Moxam who rifled it into the far corner. The 2nd half saw us take the game to our hosts and a penalty miss by Jason White and an Ollie Fearon header that crashed against the bar denied us a share of the points. Chris Timons headed home 2 minutes from normal time but we cold not get the 2nd.

It will be another tough encounter today and Handsworth will be looking to do the double. Today starts a run of 7 home games in a month with a single away game included just to break the run up.

Lets start the run with a win!!

COME ON YOU BULLS!! www.afcmansfield.net

G

ood afternoon everyone and a big AFC Mansfield welcome to the Players Officials and supporters from today’s visitors Handsworth Parramore.

I hope that you all had an enjoyable Christmas and you didn't over indulge in the Christmas Turkey.

Andy Saunders Chairman

Since my last programme notes we had an emphatic 13-0 victory against Retford United, which equalled the North-East Counties Premier League highest ever score. Had Jason put away the penalty we were awarded, we would have had the record to ourselves. I must say I felt sorry for Retford, no one wants to see that sort of result at this level of football. On Boxing Day, we made the short visit up the road to Worksop to play todays visitors Handsworth Parramore. We were 2-0 down after about twenty minutes and you could say that we were not really in the game first half. The second half was a different game and in the end I thought that we were a little unlucky not to have come away wit a point. One of the new turnstiles was in operation for the Retford game and everything seemed to go okay. People just need to get used to using them rather than entering through the welfare. Just to remind everyone we have a massive game here at the Forest Town Arena, next Saturday when we entertain Sunderland RCA from the Northern League in the last 32 of the FA Vase. Can I thank everyone for their support during 2016 and let’s get behind Rudy and the lads today and for the rest of the season. Finally, a Happy and Prosperous New Year to you all. COME ON YOU BULLS!! www.afcmansfield.net

andsworth Parramore FC were formed at the start of the 2014/2015 season after the merger of two highly successful clubs, Handsworth FC of the S&H County Senior League Premier Division and Worksop Parramore of the NCEL Premier Division. The clubs had been working together towards the merger during the previous season after first announcing their plans in the Summer of 2013. The NCEL and the FA allowed the new club to take over the position of Worksop Parramore, who had just finished in 4th place in the Premier Division, whilst the S&H CFA allowed their reigning Champions to continue under the name of Handsworth Parramore Reserves. The decision was made for the first team to play their home matches at Sandy Lane, Worksop whilst the Reserves and the other senior teams (Under 21’s, Under 19’s, Under 18’s A & B sides and Over 35’s) play their home games at Olivers Mount in Handsworth, Sheffield. The aim of the clubs joint Chairmen, Pete Whitehead and John Ward, is for the first team to return to Sheffield in a brand new facility within the next two years.

with the clubs first piece of silverware, the NCEL League Cup, secured after a thrilling 4-3 victory over Cleethorpes Town. Our second season started in positive fashion but halfway through the campaign, the difficult decision was made to relieve Duffield of his duties, with Mick Godber stepping up as Caretaker Manager. However, such was the impact that Godber made, including an unbeaten run of 17 games that propelled The Ambers to the top of the table, the decision to make the role permanent was taken just prior to the 5-0 thrashing of Worksop Town in the last home game of the season. The Ambers eventually fell just short in their quest for the title, finishing a comfortable second behind Champions Tadcaster Albion.

The beginning of Handsworth Junior Sporting Club of which we are the senior team, was in the 1986/87 season when Mick Wragg and Bob Hill decided to try and give lads in the Handsworth area a recreational outlet by the formation of a football team which ran under the banner of Handsworth Boys. JASON WHITE

JIMMY GHAICHEM

The Bulls No1, kept 16 clean sheets in last season’s promotion success. Ex professional with Mansfield Town and brings that professional attitude to every game he plays. A great organizer and shot stopper started the season off with, you guessed it, a clean sheet against Shepshed Dynamo in The FA Cup.

Youth team player at Mansfield Town and Sheff Wed. Made 3 appearances at Peterborough Utd. His Nonleague clubs read like a who’s who, Ilkeston, Harrogate Town, Frickley and Scarborough Ath who he left to join The Bulls plus many more. A ‘duracell’ stamina Jimmy never stops running although could improve his goal tally. His favourite saying is “Oh my God!”.

MATTY PLUMMER Classy defender who signed from Hull United. Previous pro clubs are Hull City and Darlington. Matty was at Scarborough Athletic with Rudy Funk. Always calm on the ball he can play right across the back line. Very good in the air, reads the game very well and has a good touch and range of passes.

RYAN WILLIAMS

3rd season at the club for ‘Mr Reliable’. Won both Players Player and Managers Player in 2014-15 season. Last season injury saw him miss the back end of the season but now back to his best. An attacking left back who can also play in midfield.

With 67 appearances for Mansfield Town, 74 for Chesterfield and 54 for Hull City you could certainly call Ryan an Ex Pro. The list goes on Tranmere Rovers, Bristol Rovers, Aldershot Town, Weymouth Gainsborough Trinity and North Ferriby Utd where he gained promotion to The Conference North. His last club before joining The Bulls was Scarborough. A dead ball specialist he has scored some superb freekicks since joining the club. Always busy always ready to receive the ball and makes the side tick going forward.

GRANT ALLOTT

BRAD WILSON

Towering presence at the back and in the opposition box, scores his fair share of goals. Previous clubs include Ossett Town, Goole AFC & Hallam to name just a few. For a big player Grant is surprisingly good with the ball at his feet.

Brad joined the club with U19 side, he was immediately spotted as a player with a great future. Lack of regular games last season saw him gain valuable experience at neighbours Rainworth MW at the back end of the season. But the club made sure he returned to the fold this season. Captain of last year’s successful U21 side Brad is comfortable at Centre Half and full back, could be a 1st team Captain in the making.

MARK DUDLEY

CHRIS TIMONS Captain and a player full of experience. Previous pro clubs include Mansfield Town, Chesterfield, Halifax Town and Leyton Orient. Non-league clubs include Altrincham, Stafford Rangers, Ilkeston and Hucknall Town. Tough as old boots not many strikers out muscle ‘Timo’. Has been known to score the odd goal as well.

GARY BRADSHAW

Ex Pro with Hull City making 22 appearances. Gary also played at Harrogate Town and Cheltenham Town. But his longest stays were at North Ferriby Utd, 149 appearances, 105 goals and Scarborough DANNY NAYLOR Athletic, 120 appearances with 51 goals and was top Central midfield player who is now the only player left scorer in both 2013-14 and 2014-15 season. Finished from when the club first formed in 2012. A tough last season with 14 appearances at Hull Utd where he tackler with a range of passing that is a real asset to scored 10 goals. Consistent among the goals and will the club. Likes striking the ball from long range and is be disappointed if he doesn’t top 20 for the season. current holder of most appearances for the club. last year’s successful U21 side Brad is comfortable at

Centre Half and full back, could be a 1st team Captain in the making. Clever player especially in and around the box. OLIVER FEARON Still quite young Ollie was top scorer for Penistone Church last season. He has also had spells at Frickley, Ossett Town, Maltby Main and Worsborough Bridge. Ollie is good in the air and very quick across the ground. The Bulls tried to sign him last season and eventually he signed for the coming season. Another striker that will be looking to make his mark on the league.

LYNTON KARKACH Talking of young players, Lynton was signed from Gainsborough Trinity where he came through the youth set up. Has already endeared himself to all at the club with his ability to turn and run at defenders. Another superb signing for the 2016-17 season.

DANNY PATTERSON Uncompromising Central Midfielder with a superb work rate. Danny is always in the thick of it and you would always want him on your side than playing against him. Has a good touch and can pick a pass. Previous clubs include Handsworth Parramore, Tadcaster Albion and Sheffield FC. JON D’LARYEA Made 1 appearance for Man City against Arsenal after coming through their youth academy. Played 162 times for Mansfield Town. Spells at Northwich Victoria and Eastwood Town followed before 97 appearances at Gainsborough. This was split into two spells with 34 games at North Ferriby Utd inbetween. An extremely fit central midfield player who rarely gives the ball away and his signing is a real coup for the club. JOSH MADIN Defender who has signed from Pinxton this season. Big and strong Josh is good in the air and strong in the tackle. Has the ability to read a game and can pick out a pass as well as any midfielder.

24

JOE CHEESEMAN Re-signed for the club after a spell at Rainworth MW. A tall Centre Back, strong in the air and solid in the tackle. Previous clubs Sheff Utd & Ossett Town. JORDAN ANNABLE Youngster plucked from the U18 and U21’s squads where he has been superb. A right back with speed style and a maturity beyond his years. Already featured in the FA Cup this season. JAKE NICHOLSON Previously at Sheff Wed Academy, Jake has a good touch and pace on the ball. An attacking midfielder looks an exciting prospect. Scored on his debut at Holwell Sports in the FA Vase. MYLES WRIGHT An absolute brick wall of a young keeper. Very good on 1 on 1’s, good on crosses and superb with his kicking. At any other club he would be No.1, but Jason White is keeping him out … just! Previous clubs include Buxton and Chesterfield FC. BRYAN HUGHES Ex Premier Division player with Birmingham City, Charlton Ath and Hull City. He also made 97 appearances for Wrexham. Bryan is a cultured player with a great 1st touch and an eye for a pass always looking to play the ball to feet. Currently a coach at the i2i International Soccer Academy. JASON PALING Recently sighed on dual registration from Stacksbridge Park Steels. Previous clubs include Alfreton Town and Sheff Utd. Jason is a versatile player who can play out wide or at full back on either side of the pitch. Never stops working and looks to have a good future at the club. CARTER WIDDOWSON Another recent signing from Rainworth MW, at just 17 Carter has already had step 5 experience at his previous club. A full back who has impressed against us and will grow into an excellent player. Also signed for our U21’s, the club sees great things happening for Carter.

Monday 26th December 2016 The Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division Handsworth Parramore 2 – 1 AFC Mansfield

T

he Bulls hopes of some festive cheer disappeared after just 3 minutes. That’s how long it took hosts Handsworth to unlock AFC’s defence. A fine run down the left flank from man of the match Danny Buttle saw him deliver a peach of a cross to an unmarked Alex Rippon who fired past an exposed Jason White.

Another run and cross from Buttle 2 minutes later found the head of Aaron Moxam but this time White had it covered. The visitors then mounted an attack of their own. Some good work from Ollie Fearon and Ryan Williams saw Jimmy Ghaichem presented with a chance inside the box but the winger fired wide on 8 minutes.

questions being asked of the assistant referee. A period of pressure around the 25-minute mark saw at least 4 blocked efforts on the Mansfield goal. The ball then bounced in front of Danny Patterson who should have hooked it away to safety but he completely missed the ball. Waiting goal side was Moxam and his 36th goal of the season was handed to him on a plate, although the finish was still top drawer.

The 2nd half started much brighter for The Bulls and Ghaichem drove his cross across the face of Joe Green’s goal with just a touch needed. Handsworth broke quickly and if it hadn’t been for a telling interception from Joe Cheeseman, on for the injured Grant Allott, the hosts could have increased their lead. Fearon’s cross on the hour mark was met by Cheeseman, Green easily held his looping header. A double substitution on 65 minutes with Bradshaw and Karkach coming on for D’Laryea and Cullingworth saw the visitors adopt a more attacking stance.

A combination of Williams, Bradshaw and Dudley set Matty Plummer clear in the box but his shot was always rising on 70 minutes. Moxam looked well offside on 10 minutes and Jimmy Ghaichem wriggled into the boxonly to even he looked round for a flag, that hesitation see an arm across his face stop his run and allowed White to get down to save with 28

the referee immediately signalled for a penalty.

but unfortunately the referee allowed them a certain artistic licence in their marking techniques. More drama before the end when Fearon got a powerful header in which cannoned of the crossbar with Green well beaten.

The proverbial game of two halves but with Handsworth averaging over 3 goals a game AFC did well to restrict them in the 2nd half and with a little more luck could have gotten something out of the game. But you cannot Some histrionics from keeper Green saw him give a good side like Handsworth the sort of booked but his actions put White off and he room they enjoyed in the 1st half. Lessons to skied his spot kick over the bar. More be learnt let’s hope we learn them by next ridiculous behaviour from the keeper and Monday for the return game. others sparked a little melee but the referee Handsworth Parramore: Green, Ludlam, decided to book Ollie Fearon for getting Smythe, Claisse, Harcourt, Griffiths , Rippon, involved and letting the instigators off scot Fletcher, Froggatt, Moxam, Buttle (Eades free and his explanation after the game of the 89). minutes brought the AFC goal. A great delivery from Ryan Williams was met by a Chris Timons glancing header and left Green rooted to the spot. Moxam then missed a sitter in front of goal but somehow managed to fire 5 yards wide of the target with just the keeper to beat. Handsworth were now employing some of the dark arts of football to keep The Bulls at bay www.afcmansfield.net
