Foreword Welcome to Palgrave Macmillan’s Catalog for Journals, Online Resources and Reference 2014. Our aim is provide the best possible content and user interfaces to libraries and their patrons. This has resulted in more exciting new products being launched, as well as our established resources being developed throughout the year. 2013 saw the online launch of the highly-anticipated, International Historical Statistics. Due to an array of information and tools available, this product has received an unprecedented amount of interest. We’re continuing with the pace of development and will be launching The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Strategic Management online resource towards the end of 2013. This reference work provides a rich and comprehensive overview of both the theoretical and practitioner-oriented side of strategic management. While we have launched three new journals in 2013 – American Journal of Cultural Sociology, Journal of Marketing Analytics and International Politics Reviews – we have also been working to digitize more archival content. As a result we now have the full archives of Polity, Journal of Brand Management and European Political Science available in addition to significant existing archives – see each journal titles’ page for more details. Journal of International Business Studies and Journal of the Operational Research Society also have a new HTML article template view available giving readers an enhanced experience as they navigate the components of an article online. Palgrave Connect, our ebook platform, continues to offer a flexible approach for libraries looking to build an ebook collection. Over 12,500 ebooks can be accessed with the launch of the 2014 Subject Collections. Two different purchasing models are available: ‘Subject Collections’ or ‘Build Your Own Collections’, bringing together our rich backlist and new titles to offer an exceptional range and quality of research in digital format. We sell online access to all of our products in the form of Site Licenses. This type of access provides a huge range of benefits which are listed on page 5; you can also find out more information from our Sales Teams working out of offices all over the world. They can help advise on the best resources for your institution and set up free non-obligatory trials. You can find their details on the inside back cover of this catalog. 2013 was a hugely successful year for Palgrave Macmillan, and as we move into another year we look forward to providing your institution with the very best content in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business. With best wishes, David Bull Publishing Director, Journals and Reference Palgrave Macmillan

American Journal of Cultural Sociology www.palgrave-journals.com/ajcs/ Editors: Jeffrey C. Alexander, Yale University, USA; Ronald N. Jacobs, University at Albany, State University of New York, USA and Philip Smith, Yale University, USA 2014: VOLUME 2• 3 ISSUES PER VOLUME Print ISSN: 2049-7113 Online ISSN: 2049-7121

aims and scope: From modernity’s onset, social theorists have been announcing the death of meaning, at the hands of market forces, impersonal power, scientific expertise, and the pervasive forces of rationalization and industrialization. Yet, cultural structures and processes have proved surprisingly resilient. Relatively autonomous patterns of meaning sweeping narratives and dividing codes, redolent if elusive symbols, fervent demands for purity and cringing fears of pollution - continue to exert extraordinary effects on action and institutions. They affect structures of inequality, racism and marginality, gender and sexuality, crime and punishment, social movements, market success and citizen incorporation. New and old media project continuous symbolic reconstructions of private and public life. As contemporary sociology registered the continuing robustness of cultural power, the new discipline of cultural sociology was born. How should these complex cultural processes be conceptualized? What are the best empirical ways to study social meaning? Even as debates rage around these field-specific theoretical and methodological questions, a broadly cultural sensibility has spread into every arena of sociological study, illuminating how struggles over meaning affect the most disparate processes of contemporary social life.

Bringing together the best of these studies and debates, the american Journal of Cultural sociology publicly crystallizes the cultural turn in contemporary sociology. By providing a common forum for the many voices engaged in meaning-centered social inquiry, the aJCs will facilitate communication, sharpen contrasts, sustain clarity, and allow for periodic condensation and synthesis of different perspectives. The journal aims to provide a single space where cultural sociologists can follow the latest developments and debates within the field.

Online Features: • Complete online archive available from 2013. • Advance online publication - definitive, citable version of papers (complete with DOI) available online ahead of print. • american Journal of Cultural sociology is included in Palgrave Open which offers authors of accepted papers the option to publish their articles with immediate open access upon publication. Asia’s place in the economic order has been driven by the dynamic interaction of global capital and regional and local forces. Rapid growth and swift financial downturn require rigorous scholarly attention. Asia’s socio-economic conditions are patently different from those of the West: a re-examination of functional Anglo-American approaches and the ‘Asian values model’ are called for.

aims and scope:

Online Features:

In recent times, the study of France has been changing. Globalization, Europeanization, and interdependence have meant that it is less easy to see developments in contemporary France in a purely national context. External factors have intruded on the French political system. In the academic context the trend towards large-scale collaboration in comparative projects has meant an increasing opportunity for bringing France into the mainstream of academic research. Long considered to be an exceptional case, recent scholarship in political science has tended to emphasize the points of comparison between France and other polities. In short, the context of French politics is changing and the study of French politics is changing. French Politics is designed to reflect these developments.

Health systems is a multi-disciplinary journal promoting the idea that all aspects of health and healthcare delivery can be viewed from a systems perspective. The underpinning philosophy of the journal is that health and healthcare systems are characterized by complexity and interconnectedness, where “everything affects everything else.” Thus, problems in healthcare need to be viewed holistically as an integrated system of multiple components (people, organizations, technology and resources) and multiple perspectives. This creates a need for a journal to serve as a bridging factor. Health systems provides a forum that brings the different disciplinary viewpoints and research approaches together in discussion.

It is a truly interdisciplinary product that will prove a valuable resource to those researching and studying Business, Economics, Environmental Studies, Geography, History, Politics, Sociology and Statistical Studies. This release updates the last print edition of International Historical Statistics, which was published in 2007 in three volumes. Users will find the ability to conduct statistical analysis across both time and geopolitical boundaries particularly valuable. Data tables can be downloaded as ePDFs and/or Excel files. The collection includes tables on a wide range of topics, including: • Population • Migration • Trade, Imports and Exports • Labour Force • Unemployment • Wholesale and Consumer Prices • Education, Schools, Universities, Higher Education • Agriculture • Industry • Energy

• Telecommunications • Post • Civil Aviation • Railways • Motor Vehicles • Shipping • TV and Radio • Finance • Currency • Government Expenditure and National Accounts

We have done all the hard work identifying and collecting a wide range of statistical data in one place. Please contact our Online Sales Teams if you would like more information:

Nature Climate Change covers the science of contemporary climate change, its impacts, and wider implications for the economy, society and policy. As climate change is now as much a societal problem as a physical one, the journal publishes original research across the social sciences, as well as physical science research. In addition to publishing original research, Nature Climate Change provides a forum for discussion among leading experts through the publication of opinion, analysis and review articles. It also highlights the most important developments in the field through Research Highlights and publishes original reporting from renowned science journalists in the form of feature articles.
