Compartir mis reflexiones sobre las Salas de Situación me hace encontrarme con un problema inicial y fundamental: monitorizar `la realidad’ exige poner las cartas sobre la mesa, ¿cuál es esta `realidad’ de la que partimos? ¿cuál es la naturaleza de sus procesos fundamentales y cómo se supervisan éstos?
As I prepare to share my reflections on Situation Rooms, I am confronted by a crucial preliminary problem. If we are to monitor “reality,” we must start by laying our cards on the table: what is the “reality” we are monitoring to begin with? What is the nature of its basic processes, and how do we monitor these process?
Diría que un modelo sencillo que se puede usar para figurar el mundo a determinada escala sería uno extraído de aquellos principios de Cuvier1, que nos permitían comprender los organismos vivos desde la perspectiva de su anatomía, es decir, de su estructura física, de su interfaz-cuerpo. Cuvier dejaba entrever una estrategia evolutiva2 formada por órganos centrales estables, protegidos y replicados en distintos contextos y periferias inestables, cambiantes, adaptables y singulares.
The principles laid down by Cuvier1, which allow us to understand living organisms from the point of view of their anatomy – their physical configuration or body interface – are a simple model for representing the world at a particular scale that we can borrow from. Cuvier provided a glimpse into an evolutionary2 strategy based on central organs protected and replicated in numerous unstable, changing, adaptable and singular contexts and peripheries.
