Proyecto Synco
So what was Project Cybersyn or, in Spanish, Proyecto Synco? In summary, Cybersyn was a project designed to regulate the social property area of the Chilean economy using a rapid exchange of information between the state-controlled factories and the Chilean government. The project was built between 1971 and 1973 by a group of Chileans in CORFO, INTEC and ECOM and a British cybernetician named Stafford Beer. Work on the project continued up until to the day of the military coup on September 11, 1973.

¿Entonces que era el Project Cybersyn o, en español, Proyecto Synco? En resumen, Synco era un proyecto diseñado para regular el área de la propiedad social de la economía usando un intercambio rápido de información entre las fábricas nacionalizadas y el gobierno. El proyecto fue desarrollado y construido entre 1971 y 1973 por un grupo de chilenos dentro de CORFO, INTEC y ECOM también por un cibernético inglés llamado Stafford Beer. Él trabajo en el proyecto hasta el día del golpe militar que aconteció el 11 de septiembre de 1973.
The Cybersyn Operations room was a prototype - it was not fully functional, nor was it used. However, components of the Cybersyn system helped the government, especially during the truck drivers strike (Paro de Octubre) that took place in October 1972.

On 12 November 1971 British cybernetician Stafford Beer met Chilean President Salvador Allende to discuss constructing an unprecedented tool for economic management. For Beer the meeting was of the utmost importance; the project required the president’s support. Accompanied only by his translator, Beer walked to the presidential palace in La Moneda while the rest of his team waited anxiously at a hotel bar across the street.
Una anécdota El 12 de Noviembre de 1971, el cibernético Stafford Beer se reunió con el Presidente Salvador Allende para discutir la construcción de una herramienta sin precedentes y que tendría la capacidad de regular la economía usando el poder de los computadores electrónicos que hacía poco habían llegado a Chile. Para Beer, la reunión fue muy importante porque el proyecto requería del apoyo del Presidente. Acompañado sólo por su traductor, Beer caminó a La Moneda mientras el resto de su equipo esperaba en un bar al otro lado de la Alameda.

The cybernetician and the president sat face to face (with a translator in the middle), and Beer explained his work in “management cybernetics,” a field he founded in the early 1950s and cultivated in his subsequent publications. At the heart of Beer’s work stood the “viable system model,” a five-tier structure based on the human nervous system, which Beer believed existed in all stable organizations
