FESTIVAL SERIES

Troublemakers, rabblerousers, and rebels – it’s rarely the polite who make history. 2014 Outfest Los Angeles pays tribute to the artists and the activists who refused to play nice and color inside the lines: whether it’s provocative filmmakers like Pat Rocco, Bruce LaBruce, and Wakefield Poole, who shocked audiences with their rule-breaking, or the outspoken Kristin Beck, as proud a transwoman as she was once a Navy SEAL, or Renata Hill, a resilient queer African American woman who must battle a broken legal system, fortune favors the bold, and their boldness has created a better world for the LGBT community. Provocateurs are everywhere this year, from the uncensored sexual satire of Madeleine Olnek to the genre experimentation of Xavier Dolan, from the marriage equality pioneers of LIMITED PARTNERSHIP to Mariana Rondón’s unflinching examination of family dysfunction to the scholarly advancements and innovations of Susan Sontag, José Esteban Muñoz, and Kate Bornstein. Get transgressive with us.
