Message from the Dean

Dear Friends, I’m pleased to have this opportunity to tell you about some of the great strides and great changes we’ve made that are moving this College in some new and dynamic directions. As many of you know, President E. Gordon Gee has asked every college at Ohio State to create and implement plans that will help to move the university from “excellence to eminence.” We’re doing our part here in dentistry by asking our faculty, staff, and students to strive for higher standards of achievement, to be positive and pro-active in all they do, and to increase their productivity to help build what we’re calling a “high performance” culture that represents the best attitudes and attributes of the College of Dentistry. In addition to establishing a high performance culture, we’ve begun the implementation of a new, ambitious strategic plan for this College that includes dramatic changes in such areas as improving clinic operations to enhance revenues, expanding clinical and basic science research, cultivating outstanding faculty members, enriching educational programs that offer efficient, effective and consistent instruction, while also recruiting and retaining high-caliber staff and students. We continue to foster outreach and community-based education programs, while also increasing the diversity of our faculty, staff, and students. We’re also working to implement the recommendations made last year by the external review committee, as well as adopting and applying the directives from the self-study report we completed in 2009. All of these goals represent critical milestones that this College must accomplish over the next five years, but we’ve already made substantial progress, and we’re continuing our efforts to meet these ambitious goals. As dean of this College, I’m very proud to be a part of this institution and all it has to offer. With its history of educational excellence and a future that’s filled with unlimited possibilities, this College and its traditions represent something that is truly great. The College of Dentistry is known for its outstanding faculty members, staff, and students, but we’re also privileged to have the best and most loyal alumni and friends. Your ongoing support is essential, and your contributions and involvement are vital in moving us forward with these new initiatives that ensure our continued progress, our success, and our commitment to excellence in all we do!
