Now in its 38th year, Orange Civic Theatre (OCT) continues to strive towards bringing a broad and stimulating range of cultural expression, entertainment and educational opportunities through the performing arts, workshops and master classes to the local and surrounding community. Over this time OCT has cemented itself as an integral part of the Orange community with, we are proud to say, an average attendance of 50,000 plus each year.

OCT recognises the positive effect creative arts and activity have on individuals; providing enjoyment, enlivening spaces and enriching lives.

Culture makes places distinctive, engendering pride in the local community. It also makes a practical contribution in terms of sustainability, providing employment, encouraging learning and inspiring people to

adopt creative and active lifestyles.

OCT is committed to breaking down any stereotypes associated with performing areas and providing an invaluable artistic service to the community.

Playwright Jason de Santis brings a Tiwi twist to an old favourite to create a modern Aboriginal fairy story, inspired

by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Wulamanayuwi and the Seven Pamanui is a joyful romp through a familiar tale of myth, magic and adventure.

Narrated by Jarparra, the Moon Man, join Wulamanayuwi, daughter of a Tiwi warrior, on her journey to rescue her seven little brothers transformed by Jirrakilala, her evil stepmother, into seven mischievous spirits—the seven Pamanui.

Wannabe chorus girl Roxie Hart has been tossed in the joint for bumping off the lover she’s been cheating on her husband with.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Velma enlists the help of prison matron Mama Morton and slickster lawyer Billy Flynn, who turn Velma’s incarceration into a “murder-of-the-week” media frenzy, thus preparing the world for a splashy showbiz comeback. But Roxie’s got some of her own tricks up her sleeve…

Devilish and delightful, Chicago is an indisputable Broadway landmark that utilises minimal scenery and simple costumes (we’re talking some seriously basic black) to deliver one big musical bang after another. With one great showstopper after the next, John Kander and Fred Ebb’s nowclassic score keeps the story moving at a gunshot pace. The scantily-clad dancers tip their bowler hats in tribute to original Bob Fosse choreography, whose moves are still as steamy and sexy today as they were when Chicago first appeared in 1975.

While they quietly wage war with their past and dream up a brighter future, a young life-loving Turkish traveller arrives with a charm and sensuality that turns their world around.

Their dreams become reality when they transform their rundown fast-food stop into a restaurant showcasing Elma’s gift for comfort cooking. Audience members become restaurant guests as the sisters serve up Elma’s hearty minestrone soup, sourdough and local wines.

In an incredibly exciting new production of Henry V, Damien Ryan directs a contemporary version of this play inspired by a true story— for 71 consecutive nights during the Blitz in 1941, a group of boys trapped in a bunker rehearsed plays including the works of Shakespeare and would perform them for others in the shelter. Told through the prism of boys caught in a modern conflict Bell Shakespeare’s production will expose, in equal measure, the stirring heights and troubling depths of Henry V. On a broader level, it will be an unflinching examination of political spin, patriotism, religion, class, brotherhood and leaders of men.

Delayed payment option Food and drink Subscribers may choose to have the cost of subscription tickets charged to their credit card periodically throughout the year. Seats will be allocated at the beginning of the year.

Approximately two weeks before each of your chosen performances this amount will be charged to your credit card and the tickets mailed to you.

Bags and prams For the safety and comfort of Orange Civic Theatre patrons, bags larger than a small, A4-sized handbag and prams are not allowed in the auditorium during a performance.

Babies in arms policy

It is requested that tickets be collected at least half an hour prior to the start of a performance.

Orange Civic Theatre’s children's programs are designed to encourage access for younger audiences to the performing arts. For the children's programs babes in arms (that is babies who remain in their carers' arms during a performance and do not participate in the event) are admitted free of charge.

Any children aged 12 months or older must have a ticket to these events.

Admittance and latecomers

For the comfort of others

The auditorium doors open 20 minutes prior to the commencement of a performance. Please be aware, latecomers will not be admitted into the theatre until there is a suitable break in the performance.

We request that mobile phones, pagers and alarms be turned off prior to entering the theatre. Cameras or any forms of electronic recording equipment are not permitted in the auditorium.

The numbers of free tickets provided for registered carers is strictly limited.

These tickets are only available for childcare staff accompanying children as a condition of their paid employment. In order to be eligible for the special childcare rates and free carer tickets, a childcare/vacation care group must be registered for the Government Childcare Rebate.

The registration or customer reference (CRN) number is required when booking.
