After his arrival in Guanghzou (Canton) at the dawn of the 19th century, Edouard Bovet won the admiration of the Emperor and indeed most Chinese, to the extent that in China the name BOVET became synonymous with watch.

BOVET “GRAND FEU” COLLECTION FIRES UP THE AUCTION RESULTS AT CHRISTIE’S On November 12, the Hotel des Bergues in Geneva opened its doors to the annual Christie’s Important Watches auction led by Aurel Bacs and his team of experts. They outdid themselves and managed to assemble one of the most iconic collections of timepieces from the last three centuries to compose one of the richest catalogs in recent decades. Pascal Raffy, owner of BOVET 1822 and DIMIER 1738 acquired the two BOVET lots that were the most sought after. Most notably, a signed BOVET pocket watch initially sold in China in 1835 rea-
ched the record price of CHF 400’000. The engravers prepared by hand the champlevé that allowed the compartmentalizing of different enamels and glazes while the miniature painter was completing the fired enamel decoration of
a “MANDARIN DUCK” that adorns the back of the timepiece.
