Uma coisa é certa, a importância da Liga Pro Surf tem mudado ao longo dos tempos. Este circuito já serviu diversos propósitos ao longo dos seus muitos anos de existência. Já foi carreira, já foi razão de estagnação mas, independentemente de tudo, o top16 sempre foi um estatuto respeitado. Neste momento, pela primeira vez em muitos anos, este circuito parece estar a ter o papel certo uma vez que é para muitos um degrau a caminho de objectivos mais altos. Em 2011 esta elite do surf português foi invadida por um grupo muito jovem, apesar de ainda contar com bastantes nomes acima dos 30 anos. Mesmo alguns dos mais “antigos” não se estão a focar 100% no circuito caseiro, como é o caso de Justin Mujica e Ruben Gonzalez, que têm competido no WQS em paralelo. No entanto, é aqui que os melhores portugueses medem forças e põem o surf em dia. É aqui que mostram o que aprendem lá fora e credibilizam as suas carreiras frente aos seus pares e ao público português! O júnior Vasco Ribeiro teve um 2011 em grande. One thing is for sure, the weight of the portuguese tour on the athletes career has varied over time. In its many years of existence it has served different interests. At a certain time you could even build a career out of it and it has often been a reason of stagnation of many as well. But, regardless of where you sit, the top16 has always been a very respected statute. At the moment, for the first time in many years, the portuguese tour seems to be doing what it was really meant to be, a stepping stone on the way to higher goals. In 2011 this circuit was invaded by a group of teenagers, despite still having some of the "oldies" around. But even some of the oldies are focusing on the WQS as well, competing in both events whenever possible. This tour is where they compete with each other and get their wax wet. It’s here that they show what they’ve learned and where the portuguese public sees them in action! COVER: Portuguese junior Vasco Ribeiro had a blast in 2011. 1º Vasco Ribeiro PT

Vasco está num patamar competitivo acima de todos os outros surfistas deste circuito e é neste momento o campeão nacional mais novo de sempre. Mas verdade seja dita, este título é apenas a cereja no topo do bolo num ano em que os seus resultados mais expressivos foram o de vicecampeão mundial da ISA e os seus resultados nos Pro-Juniors. O que quer dizer que está na hora de pensar em enfrentar o verdadeiro desafio da sua carreira, o WQS. Ribeiro ainda tem o tempo do seu lado mas deve absorver a lição de Tiago Pires de não precisar de ficar a “matutar” grandes vitórias na Europa antes de se atirar de cabeça ao circuito que interessa mesmo! O que tinha de provar por estes lados está provado, está na hora de seguir em frente!

Vasco is in a higher competitive realm than everyone else on this tour and easely became the youngest portuguese champion ever. But truth be told, this title is, at most, only the icing on the cake in a year where his real results were the second place at the ISA World Championships and his performances at the Pro-Junior events. This means he is ready to jump into the next challenge, the WQS. Time is on his side but he must absorb the experience of Tiago Pires, who didn’t wait around for great junior results and instead jumped right into what really counts. That being said, he has nothing else to prove at home, it’s time to jump into the next challenge!

2º Ruben Gonzalez PT

Ruben Gonzalez fez em 2011 um regresso ao seu ambiente natural, depois de um ano afastado da competição. Por mais “talentos” que tenha fora do campo da competição, nas ondas grandes, eventos especializados e photo trips, e por mais que preencha os requisitos de embaixador da marca que veste, Gonzalez não poderia deixar ao “abandono” este campo onde tanto se destaca. A prova de que não perdeu a competitividade durante a sua ausência é o facto de ter levado a disputa do título nacional até ao derradeiro heat do ano, acabando como “vice”. Continua a ser uma pedra no caminho da nova geração e será por mais alguns anos, se assim o desejar.

2011 saw the return of Ruben to his natural habitat after a year away from competition. Despite his many talents outside competition, such as big wave surfing, special events and photo trips that fulfil the requirements of surf ambassador for his sponsors, he just couldn’t stay away from where he stands out so much. The proof he still has what it takes to win this tour is the fact that he took the dispute of the 2011 title into the very last heat of the year. Will be trouble for the next generation for years to come if he wants to go on competing.

Mesmo sem se focar neste circuito Edu ficou muito perto de o vencer e isso mostra o quão alto é o seu nível competitivo. Infelizmente para si, a sua única quebra foi na etapa mais importante do ano, a última, onde perdeu nos quartos de final ficando a ver a disputa de um título que poderia ser seu na areia. Caso algum dia se foque 100% no circuito nacional, algo que até agora não tem feito, poderá perfeitamente vencê-lo, ficando a depender apenas da consistência de algumas “estrelinhas” da nova geração.

Didn’t focus on this tour but still came very close to winning it. That shows how high his competitive level is. Unfortunately he failed to advance out of the quarter finals at the contest that mattered the most, the last one. For that he was forced to watch from the beach as Vasco and Ruben went head to head for a title that could have been his! If he concentrates 100% on the portuguese tour, something he’s never done so far, he could very well win it, depending on what the new stars of the tour are up to.

The portuguese tour is nothing more than practice for the young german-portuguese and we suspect that he wouldn’t even bother showing up if the level of surfing wasn’t so high. His goals are way higher than this and despite having won the first contest of the year, he only showed up at two more contests, ending up with one less result than the other top contenders. And instead of competing in Ribeira D’Ilhas he chose to travel to Tahiti to compete in an international contest and surf Teahupoo. Shouldn’t fight for this title in the next few years unless the schedule doesn’t coincide with bigger events.

4º Nicolau Von Rupp PT

O circuito nacional para Nicolau não é mais que um treino e suspeitamos que se não tivesse um nível de surf bastante alto, o luso-germânico nem se daria ao trabalho de competir nele. Os seus objectivos são muito mais altos, tanto é que faltou a duas etapas, ficando a contar com menos uma no somatório dos melhores resultados. Em vez de competir na etapa de Ribeira D’Ilhas, Nicolau viajou para o Tahiti para competir num campeonato internacional e surfar Teahupoo, o que só mostra que tem as suas prioridades no sítio. Não deve disputar o título nos próximos anos se as etapas continuarem a coincidir com eventos que considera mais importantes.

Zé Ferreira é o “Silent Killer” do momento mas está a precisar de vencer uma etapa neste que é o mais importante circuito português. Assim que encontrar o caminho para as vitórias tudo pode mudar e poderá disputar a liderança do ranking. Mas, a par de muitos outros da sua geração, está de olho noutros campeonatos e o circuito nacional deverá servir apenas para mostrar trabalho aos seus patrocinadores e manter a competitividade enquanto não dá o salto lá para fora. Se mantiver a consistência e foco, deverá continuar a “escalar” o ranking.

Zé Ferreira is the “Silent Killer” of the bunch, but he really needs to win a contest on this tour. As soon as he finds his way to the top of the podium he will start fighting for the lead of the rankings. But, just like many others from his generation, his eye is on a bigger prize and the portuguese circuit should be used to keep his sponsors happy and maintain his competitive edge before he goes international. If he keeps his consistency and focus he will definitely climb the rankings in the near future!

6º Justin Mujica PT

O campeão em título parecia estar de olho no tri-campeonato mas além ter faltado à segunda etapa faltou à última também, entregando assim o título de bandeja. Seria de pensar que aos 34 anos Mujica já estivesse completamente focado no circuito nacional. Mas não, Justin continua com surf de ponta e prepara um ano no WQS. O que não quer dizer que não passe por este circuito, mas a menos que o calendário do nacional se encaixe nos seus planos, Justin não dará muita importância a este circuito.

The reigning champion seemed to be looking for his third portuguese national title but skipped two events and gave away his title without a fight. One would think that at 34 years of age he would be totally focusing on this tour. Not Justin, he’s still ripping and getting ready for a year on the WQS. That means he will not be a contender for first place if he sticks to his initial plan.

7º Alexandre Ferreira PT

Uma sequência de problemas pessoais e emocionais que ocorreram durante o decorrer de 2011 poderiam ter colocado Xaninho fora da elite do surf nacional. Mas o surfista da Poça mostrou-se forte, agarrou no surf como o seu escape, surfou confiante e acabou o ano nove lugares acima do anterior. Apesar de já não ter a margem de progressão pela frente que muitos dos tops da actualidade têm, a verdade é que Alexandre parece estar a acompanhar bem o nível deste circuito e ninguém ficará espantado se surpreender uns quantos e se meter ainda mais para cima no ranking. A chain of personal and emotional problems that occurred in 2011 would have taken a lesser man out the top16. Not this guy, he made surfing his get away, surfed with extreme confidence and finished the year nine places higher than the year before. Doesn’t have the learning curve ahead of him that many of the younger crew have, but seems to be still evolving just fine. No one will be surprised if he takes out some bigger names and climbs up the rankings a bit more.

8º Edgar Nozes Enquanto alguns conseguem mostrar o seu valor em competição, ou mesmo passar os seus limites entre toques de buzina, Edgar continua a variar entre os 60% e os 80% do seu verdadeiro nível de surf! A meio do ano, Eddie encontravase frustrado com a sua consistência nos 9º lugares. Uma injecção de pica mais tarde fez uma final só para acabar o ano com um 13º seguido de um 7º! E o que dá a média destes últimos dois resultados? Um número muito perto do 9º, o que lhe deu um ranking final de 8º lugar! É razão para ficar chateado? É! A geração seguinte já se estabeleceu e Nozes ainda não conseguiu entrar no top 5. A partir daqui só se tornará mais difícil, e ele sabe disso. Mas continua com surf para o fazer, apenas não poderá demorar muito mais!

Classic case of a surfer that just doesn’t perform at the top of his level in heats. Edgar surfs at 60 to 80% of his true level in competition, while others can go 100 or 110%. Half way through the year Nozes looked frustrated with the fact that he nearly always finished 9th place. At some point he seemed to be really focused and made it to a final, only to finish the year with a 13th and a 7th places. And what is the average of 13th and 7th? A number really close to 9, and to top that off he finished the year rated 8th. Is it a good reason to be upset about? For sure, the next generation has taken control of the ratings and he has yet to finish on the top 5. From here on, life will only become harder and he knows it. Still has time to rise to where he belongs, just not a lot of time!

Um resultado mau para Guedes é não acabar no top 4 deste circuito, o que quer dizer que os últimos dois anos foram muito fracos para o campeão nacional de 2009. Guedes cometeu o mesmo “erro” que outros excampeões nacionais na década de 90 como João Antunes, Rodrigo Herédia e Marcos Anastácio: depois de vencerem o circuito português, fizeram uma “investida” no mundial. E todos eles tiveram anos desastrosos em Portugal logo de seguida. No entanto, mesmo sem sucesso no tour, todos eles evoluíram no surf, o que mais tarde deu frutos. João foi um dos mais prejudicados recentemente com o factor crise, que o deixou sem patrocínio pela primeira vez na sua carreira. Agora chegou a fase de voltar a focar-se no título do circuito nacional, que poderá perfeitamente voltar a ser seu! EN

Anywhere outside the top4 on this tour is a bad result for João Guedes, which means that the last two years have been bellow average for the 2009 portuguese champ. João did the same “mistake” as some portuguese champions of the 90s, such as João Antunes, Rodrigo Herédia and Marcos Anastácio, who took off to the WQS after winning the national circuit. And ALL of them had disastrous results at home the year after. But all of them got their compensation years after, in form great evolution in their technique, something that would later pay off. Guedes is right now the biggest victim (among the top16) of the current global crisis, ending the year without a sponsor for the first time in his career. Now it’s time to refocus on this tour and on the portuguese title, something that he could definitely get back if he works hard!

10º Filipe Jervis PT

2011 foi um ano de WQS e, apesar de não ter tido resultados muito expressivos, parece ter aprendido muito. Mesmo assim Jervis arranjou tempo para estar presente em todas as etapas do nacional, algo que poucos entre os tops fizeram. Apesar de Filipe não ter brilhado no circuito ”caseiro”, salvou o ano com duas meias finais, na primeira e última etapas. Tal como no caso de Zé Ferreira, as vitórias estão a iludi-lo, e um primeiro lugar numa etapa deste circuito faria muito pela sua auto-confiança. Sem dúvida que isso terá de ser um objectivo sempre que parar em Portugal, mais para credibilizar a sua veia de competidor do que para mostrar que tem surf para o fazer, pois isso já todos sabemos!

Spent most of the year searching for points on the WQS and, despite not having produced any impressive result, he seems to have learned a lot. And he still made sure he was around at all the stops of the home tour, something few top surfers did. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t do very well, except for the first and last events, where he made the semis. Just like Ze Ferreira, the top of the podium seems to elude him, and a first place trophy would go a long way in terms of self-confidence. That should be his only goal when he competes at home, not necessarily to prove his surfing is good enough, because we all know it is, but to prove his contest ability is at that level.

11º Francisco Alves A ascensão fácil que Francisco fez para dentro dos tops no seu segundo ano “completo” de nacional, apesar de ainda ser júnior, só prova que faz parte do grupo de “rising stars” do surf nacional. Por apenas cinco pontos não entrou directo para o top10 mas independentemente disso o seu grande momento foi noutro palco, na etapa portuguesa do World Tour. “Xico” entrou como substituto do lesionado Jeremy Flores e mesmo não tendo passado o heat levou o público ao rubro. Além disso entrou no top16 do circuito Pro-Junior Europeu, provando que poderá ser um factor além fronteiras. Mas se o seu surf também está no “bom caminho”, já a sua competitividade tem de melhorar para continuar o trabalho que agora começou!

Easy rise into the top16 in his second “full” year on the Portuguese tour. The fact that he’s done it still as a junior just proves he is definitely part of Portugal’s rising star “gang”. He was just five points away from a top10 finish but his big moment happened at another stage, the WT event in Portugal. Alves got in as a replacement for Jeremy Flores, who was injured, and despite not making out of any heats he received a huge backing by the portuguese public. The fact that he finished inside the top16 of the European Pro-Junior tour shows that he could do well outside of his homeland. His surfing is getting better and better but his competitive skills must improve as well if he wants to keep rising.

12º Miguel Mouzinho Foi o surfista mais consistente do circuito com quatro 9ºs consecutivos e um 5º lugar para acabar o ano em 12º. Depois de vários anos a correr o circuito, Mouzinho entrou nos tops o ano passado e parece ter descoberto a fórmula para lá ficar. O único algarvio entre os tops está com um surf bastante sólido e, se mantiver os treinos e o ritmo, poderá tornar-se numa figura constante entre os tops durante muito tempo.

The most consistent surfer on the national tour, with four consecutive 9th place finishes and a 5th to finish the year off. After several years competing in the portuguese circuit he found his way into the top last year and seems to have found the formula to stay there. He is the only surfer from the Algarve in the top16 and if he keeps training and evolving at this pace he could become a permanent fixture among the best portuguese for a long time.

À semelhança de Nuno Telmo, Raimundo é um dos responsáveis pela recente grande evolução do surf em Portugal através da Surftechnic. Nove dos 16 primeiros surfistas fazem parte, ou a certa altura fizeram, do seu grupo de treino, o que prova que alguma coisa deverão estar a fazer muito bem. Com o tempo os seus alunos vão começar a ganhar-lhe com mais regularidade mas todos eles devem ter muito cuidado quando o apanham em esquerdas, pois o seu backside continua “letal”.

David, in association with Nuno Telmo, is responsible for the Surftechnic training group, and they are one of the key factors for the recent big development of portuguese surfing. Nine out of these sixteen are, or have been, part of this group, proving they must be doing something right! With time his pupils will start defeating him more regularly but they should always watch out for him in good lefts because his backside attack is still pretty lethal!

14º João Kopke PT

Começou o ano fortíssimo, com duas meias finais, mas abrandou mais à frente e caiu bastante no ranking. Mesmo assim foi uma grande melhoria em relação ao ano anterior, em que acabou em 20º lugar. Apesar de também ter corrido o circuito Pro-Junior Europeu e de ter tido alguns bons resultados, o seu grande momento de 2011 foi quando se sagrou campeão nacional de sub16 competindo contra surfistas como Miguel Blanco, Tomás Fernandes e companhia. O seu free surf também parece ter melhorado bastante este ano e está a começar a acertar manobras bastante progressivas. Apesar de ainda ter 16 anos, 2012 vai ser um ano bastante decisivo uma vez que Kopke terá de escolher entre seguir a sua “turma” além fronteiras ou manter-se mais perto de casa não perdendo o foco nos circuitos internos e nos estudos!

Started the year strong, with two semi-finals, but slowed down the road and fell considerably in the rankings. Still it was a great improvement over the previous year, in which he ended 20th in the rankings. He also had a good run in the European Pro-Junior circuit with some solid results, his best moment in 2011 was when he was crowned the under16 national champion, competing against surfers such as Miguel Blanco, Tomás Fernandes and friends. His free surfing also seems to have improved considerably over the last year and he is starting to pull off some very progressive maneuvers. Despite still being 16 years old, 2012 will be a very decisive year for Kopke. He will have to choose between following his mates abroad or stay closer to home and keep his focus on the internal circuits and school!

15º Nuno Telmo PT

A saída de João Antunes dos tops este ano fecha um ciclo de dominância da chamada “geração de ouro” do surf português. Nuno Telmo fez parte da primeira vaga da geração seguinte a furar o bloqueio, surgindo então como um dos mais novos entre os tops. Hoje os papéis inverteram-se e Telmo é o mais velho entre os tops. De facto, entre os 19 e os 35 anos, Telmo apenas esteve fora dos 16 melhores por duas ou três vezes, sendo que uma delas foi por lesão grave. Mas não lhe metam o rótulo de dinossauro porque o seu surf continua fortíssimo e ainda pode dar muito trablho nos próximos anos.

When João Antunes finished out of the top16 this year a cycle of dominance of the (so called) Golden Generation of Portuguese surfing ended. Many years back, Telmo was one of the first from the following generation to break trough into the Tops, becoming then one of the youngest amongst the 16. Today he is the oldest, at 35. In fact, from 19 years of age all the way to his 35th birthday, he wasn’t out of the top for more than two or three years, one of them due to injury. But don’t label him as a dinosaur, his surfing is still pretty good and he should stay among the top16 for a few more years.

16º Miguel Blanco PT

Caiu quatro lugares neste circuito em relação a 2010 e não conseguiu vencer nenhuma das duas categorias (sub16 e sub18) no circuito esperanças. Mas deu cartas no ProJunior Europeu ficando muito perto de acabar no top16. Ainda tem 16 anos por isso tem alguma margem de erro. Segue de perto os seus amigos da Surftechnique, Ribeiro, Ferreira e Alves. Tem os objectivos bem lá em cima e eles não passam por Portugal. Ainda é uma incógnita até onde poderá chegar mas parece estar no bom caminho!

Fell four spots on the portuguese ranking from last year and didn’t win the under 16 or under 18 titles, despite having led both. But he did well at the European Pro-Juniors, finishing very close to the top16. He’s still 16 year of age so he has still a little room for error. Follows closely his Surf-technique buddy's Ribeiro, Ferreira and Alves. Has high expectations for himself and that being said, his main goals are not national titles. It’s still early to tell how far he can go but right now he seems to be on the right path to a great career!

17º Dane Hall PT

Dane Hall não é muito conhecido fora de Peniche. Cresceu em Inglaterra e emigrou para Portugal mas raramente sai da zona de Peniche. E quem o pode censurar? Peniche tem quase sempre boas ondas, independentemente da direcção do swell, tamanho ou vento. Mas aqueles que o conhecem e o vêem a surfar sabem que parte a loiça. 2011 foi o primeiro ano em que competiu no circuito nacional e quase entrou no top16, falhando apenas por um lugar. Se em 2012 não falhar nenhuma etapa tudo indica que será um nome garantido dentro dos 16, tem surf para isso.

Dane Hall is not very well known in Portugal. He showed up from England a few years back and doesn’t leave the Peniche area that often. And who can blame him? Peniche always has pretty good waves somewhere, regardless of the size or direction of the swell or even the wind. But those who know him and get to watch him surf know how much he rips. 2011 was the first year he competed on this tour and he almost made it to the top16, missing it by just one spot. Will most definitely finish higher next year, if he doesn’t miss any events!

O “Talento Que Se Esconde Em Aveiro” andou perto do top16 mas ficou a precisar de um resultado melhor no fim. Ainda não conseguiu transformar o seu surf progressivo em bons resultados mas tem tido os seus momentos. Pedro parece estar a investir bastante neste circuito e se não fosse esta recente “enchente” da nova geração já teria o seu lugar garantido. Pode ser que seja em 2012...

The “Talent Who Hides In Aveiro” (reference to an article about Pedro Ferreira in ONFIRE Surf 49) was really close to making the 16 but in the end he was one result short. Hasn’t managed to transform his new school surfing into results but has had good moments in competition. Seems to be investing a lot on the portuguese tour and if it wasn’t for the recent “flood” of new generation talent on the portuguese tour, he would have his spot guaranteed. Could be in, in 2012...

19º Francisco Canelas PT

Parece que todos os anos Canelas faz um bom resultado que o mete em contenção para o top16. O de 2011 foi um quinto lugar na Praia Grande, ficando a escassos pontos de fazer a sua primeira final de sempre neste circuito. Chegou à última etapa a precisar de mais um resultado forte mas foi traído pelas condições. Francisco é um surfista muito talentoso mas não conseguiu dar continuidade ao sucesso que fez como júnior, e curiosamente nunca acabou no top16 do Open. Hoje em dia está mais focado no seu trabalho do que no surf mas ainda tem dentro de si a capacidade para acabar no top16 no futuro.

It seems that, every year, he gets one really solid result that puts him in contention for the top16. In 2011 it was his 5th place at Praia Grande, where he came very close to making his first ever final. Competed in the last event needing one more solid result but was betrayed by the crappy waves on offer at low tide. Francisco is a very talented surfer who’s had a hard time following up his very successful junior career, never finishing in the top16 at all. Today he is more focused on his work but still has the capacity to make the 16 one day.

20º Pedro Boonman PT

Pelo que se viu no ano anterior e pelo que tem evoluído desde aí seria fácil assumir que Boonman acabaria no top16. Não teve nenhum resultado expressivo durante o ano além de um 9º lugar. Sendo local de Carcavelos, palco da última etapa, podia ser que surpreendesse uns quantos surfistas melhor “rankeados”, acabando assim “lá dentro” mas isso também não aconteceu. Fora de competição impressionou muita gente que nunca tinha ouvido falar dele com os seus grandes voos. Deve continuar a subir nos próximos anos mas tem de acelerar o processo se quiser manter-se como parte desta nova geração de estrelas em ascensão.

From what he did in the previous year and for how much he improved since, you’d think he’d make it easily this year. Not so. Didn’t get any good results all year but being a local to the spot where the last event was held, Carcavelos, could have surprised a bunch of top seeds and finish strong. But that didn’t happen either. Outside of competition he made a statement and impressed a lot of people who’d never heard of him before with his big airs. Should keep rising the next few years but has to step it up if he wants to be a part of the rising star "gang".

Tiago Pires PT

Nada a provar em Portugal! Aliás, não tem nada a provar em Portugal, ou mesmo na Europa, há muito tempo! Mas é sempre bom vê-lo a competir no nacional, pois credibiliza qualquer evento em que entre. Compete no palco principal, o World Tour, e é aí que a nova geração deve ambicionar chegar. Abriu as portas para a internacionalização e grandes resultados no mundial, algo que até aí ninguém no seu país viu como algo obtenível! Não ficou à espera de vencer o circuito nacional para se mandar lá para fora, mostrou potencial para o fazer e arrancou, acabando por vencer alguns anos mais tarde. E é isso que a nova geração deve absorver. Apontem para cima, acreditem nisso e cheguem lá, por mais impossível que possa parecer a certa altura.

Nothing to prove in Portugal. Actually, hasn’t had anything to prove here, or in Europe for that matter, for a long time. It’s still nice to have him competing in the portuguese tour and it help the credibility of any event. Competes on the main stage, the World Tour, where every one of the new breed of surfers should aspire to arrive. Opened the doors to international fame and results in a way no one in Portugal had believed it was possible to achieve. Didn’t wait around to win the portuguese tour to go international, instead he showed that he had it in him and took off, wining it some years later. That’s the message he has for the younger crew. Aim high, believe in it, get it, no matter how hard and impossible it seems at a certain point.

Frederico Morais PT

Foi uma ausência invulgar no circuito este ano. Focou-se no ProJunior e em viajar e evoluir. Provavelmente fez bem. Talvez seja o português a meter mais rail na água, exceptuando Tiago Pires claro. Tem tido bons resultados mas não está a competir a 100% do seu nível. Os resultados de Vasco Ribeiro têmno ofuscado mas não se deixem enganar, o seu surf não está atrás de ninguém em Portugal neste momento, excepto Tiago Pires claro. Parece estar a fazer as opções certas mas está na hora de deixar os juniores para trás e focar-se no WQS a tempo inteiro. Um campeonato com as ondas certas pode mudar tudo!

An unusual absence this year. Chose to focus on the Pro-Junior tour and travel to improve his surfing even more. Probably did the right thing. Might be the portuguese surfer who surf the most rail to rail, except for Tiago Pires of course. Big results by Vasco Ribeiro have been taking some of the spotlight from Frederico but don’t let that fool you, his surfing is behind no one in Portugal, except for Tiago Pires of course. Seems to be making the right choices but it is time to leave the junior contests behind and focus on the WQS full time. A contest in the right waves could change everything.
